Amelia's Jewel will take her first step towards a race return in a Warwick Farm barrier trial

Amelia’s Jewel will make her first public appearance for new trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald when she headlines another quality barrier trial session at Warwick Farm.

Formerly prepared by Perth horseman Simon Miller, the Group 1 winner has been off the scene since disappointing in The Goodwood at Morphettville in May.

However, Neasham said the mare had arrived at her stable in great order and while she was still carrying a bit of condition, she was progressing well.

“She still looks a little bit round, and she will tighten up for the trial,” Neasham said.

“We’re learning about her all the time, but she is very straightforward.

“She has come to us in fantastic order.

“She will have a quiet trial and then we’ll give her a stronger one in a couple of weeks.”

Tommy Berry will partner Amelia’s Jewel in Monday’s 900m heat, which also features talented sprinter Buenos Noches and ATC Australian Derby runner-up Ceolwulf.

Neasham is keeping an open mind on spring plans for the mare but is leaning towards next month’s Tramway Stakes (1400m) as a starting point, a feature Neasham has won twice before with grand campaigner Zaaki (2021-22).

Neasham will also have outstanding sprinter Sunshine In Paris in action at Warwick Farm on Monday but warns the Group 1 winner is a notoriously poor trialler.

“She will just have her usual quiet trial,” she said.

“She is never the flashest of trailers, but I’m looking forward to getting her underway.

“It will help clean her up in the coat and get her that step closer to the races.”

The trial session will also feature Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Manaal, who will be having her second hitout, while staying types Pennyweka and Poptronic will be in action in the opening heat.

Now with Tulloch Lodge, Poptronic is a Group 1 winner in Europe and is yet to make her Australian debut.
