Three-year-old filly Sister Vianney is building a pleasing record for trainer Greg Eurell after she notched her second win in succession with victory in the Ken Seymour Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.
Ridden by Jye Mcneil, the three-year-old filly by Ilovethiscity was able to claim the early leaders Lavish Girl ($3.80 favourite) and Luna Cat ($6) in the last 100 metres and take her record to two wins and two placings in seven starts.
Her last start maiden win was delivered at Geelong on 21 December over 1355 metres.
“I thought she’d run really good,” Eurell said of Sister Vianney who started at $7.50.
“I’d have been disappointed if she hadn’t run in the first three today.
“I thought the progression from Geelong to here with the weight and the barrier, and I really liked what she did at Geelong.”
Winning by 3/4-length with Throntari ($9.50) second and Luna Cat third, Eurell is yet to nail down just what lies ahead for the well-performed filly but a similar distance looks to be her sweet spot.
“Run by run she was getting that little bit of improvement that you like to see.
“She’s very genuine and today she certainly franked that.
“I’ll have to have a little chat to Jye about whether we can stretch her to 1600 meres but I don’t know about that.
“I think 1400 might be the mark for the moment.
“She still looks like she’s on bridle a little bit in the run there today, but a beautiful ride from Jye and she presented at the right time.
“She’s very genuine and today she certainly franked that.”
