After one start in Hong Kong, injury forced former UK galloper Pas Malotru to Lindsay Park

Lindsay Park has had considerable success with UK-trained horses that when sold to Hong Kong have not adapted and were then sent to Australia.

Redkirk Warrior is a prime example of a good galloper in England that did not stand up to the rigours of Hong Kong because of poor feet.

Lindsay Park turned him around and Redkirk Warrior won two Group 1 Newmarket Handicaps.

With Ben and JD Hayes at the helm at Lindsay Park, the latest ‘Redkirk Warrior’ is Pas Malotru who runs in the Jockeys Celebration Day Sprint (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Pas Malotru was trained by Marco Boti in the UK where he was a winner at Listed level while also placed third in Group 1 company at Deauville in France.

Purchased to race in Hong Kong, Pas Malotru had one start for David Hayes in November 2020 before going amiss with a tendon injury and being sent to Lindsay Park to recuperate.

Ben Hayes said he was excited at the prospects of Pas Malotru.

“He had an injury that was bad enough to bring him back here and I don’t think Hong Kong really suited him that well,” Hayes said.

“He’s come back and trialled up really well for us. He’s had three trials and his last trial, in particular, was very good.

“Overseas he had elite form, and he was a very good horse in England.

“We’ve been lucky enough to get this horse to train and we’re thankful to the owner for giving us this opportunity and hopefully he can get a good result.”

Having not raced since November 2020, Hayes said Pas Malotru may be a little ring-rusty, but long term believes he can contest some nice races.

“With his rating it’s quite hard to place him,” Hayes said.

“A nice blowout over 1100 metres will be good for him and you’ll see the best of him when he gets to his more preferred distance of 1400 metres.”
