Glasgow Lass first came to prominence at Ascot in January and displayed the signs of a future stakes winner with an impressive two length victory over Big Shots.

While Glasgow Lass suffered a minor setback and couldn’t continue her campaign, Big Shots progressed to win the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) and ran third behind boom gelding, Bustling in the WA Sires (1400m).

With two winning trials before her debut and another two since in readiness for her return, Glasgow Lass, a daughter of Alabama Express, goes into the Quayclean Plate (1200m) with an unblemished record.

Glasgow Lass is all the rage and dominates Tabtouch betting. After opening at $1.85 she’s been well backed into $1.60 to salute fresh first up.

Mitchell Pateman is keen to see Glasgow Lass step out for a second time and says she’s returned an improved product ahead of her latest campaign.

“She’s a very good horse,” Pateman said on Tabradio.

“Not many horses win every trial and her only start on debut.

“She beat a Magic Millions winner and beat him easy and ran the hand off the clock.

“She obviously had a hiccup after that start, but seems to have come back really well from it.

“Her trials have been great; her fitness levels are reasonably good and strikes probably a more winnable race than on debut.

“She’s a beautiful type of horse and has the motor to match it.

“I’m expecting her to get the job done and she is well above average.”

In a field of seven starters, Glasgow Lass has drawn barrier four. Lucy Fiore maintains the ride.

Fiore’s father, former top trainer, Justin Warwick, bought Glasgow Lass for $28,000 at the Inglis Weanling Sale before major Melbourne breeding arm, Yulong, stepped in to buy a controlling interest in the filly following her first victory.

“When she got sold I thought that would be the end of mine and her relationship,” Pateman said.

“They’ve (Yulong) been good enough to entrust me with training her.

“I’m very grateful for that and hopefully I can repay them.”

Timeless Gem is next in the market behind Glasgow Lass at $6 after an encouraging win when resuming at Pinjarra.

Despite racing wide throughout, the gelding showed tenacity to fight on and stave off the fast finishing Bondi Bay.

Trainer Stephen Miller has healthy respect for his three-year-old charge, but fears he’s racing for second.

“He had done a bit of work and just got there, but I think the horse that ran second goes pretty good too,” Miller said.

“It was a really encouraging start to his campaign, but he’s running into a pretty good one tomorrow (Saturday).

“I think we’ll be running for second, but hopefully he’ll run a good race.”

With the scratching of Boyz Lite Up, Timeless Gem jumps from gate six. Brad Parnham has the ride.
