Pride Of Jenni, trained by Ciaron Maher, is likely to take her place in Saturdayโs prestigious Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, following her narrow defeat in the King Charles III Stakes. Maher has closely monitored her recovery, and all signs suggest the mare is in good condition to back up for the race.
After the King Charles III Stakes, Maher was pleased with how Pride Of Jenni pulled up and has since ensured her recovery at Bong Bong, where she has been relaxing in the spa and paddock. โShe pulled up pretty good,โ Maher noted, following her post-race swab.
A key part of her recovery involved the use of a hyperbaric chamber, which helps aid soft tissue, lung, and overall recovery. Though initially nervous, Pride Of Jenni adapted well to the chamber. Maher emphasised its importance, saying, โIt just aids in the whole recovery process.โ
The mare will return to Melbourne on Wednesday evening, with Maher focusing on โtick-overโ work to maintain her condition without overexertion. Despite the challenge of the Cox Plate, Maher remains confident in her ability. โItโs going to be a tough ask, but if any horse can do it, she can,โ he said.
Pride Of Jenni is currently a $5.00 chance with betting sites to win the 2024 Cox Plate.
