Profiteer’s odds slashed for the Golden Slipper

Is PROFITEER (Capitalist-Athena Lass) the best 2YO in the land?

His father was.

You have to ask that of this colt who just led as he liked then raced away to win this 2YO race by a minute. He ran 1:04:69 on a wet track.

And he looks like he might be even faster than his dear old dad.

Today, he was incredible.

The $2million Inglis Millennium for 2YOs over 1100m was where he came out and looked like a freak of nature.

Is it a legit Gr 1 Golden Slipper lead-up race, well time will tell, but this winner looked handsome over the entire trip?

On a wet track, with rain falling for periods during the day leading cup to the race, it stopped ten minutes before this race.

And it was perfect timing because a ray of sunshine shone through almost as if to highlight just how good this horse it.

He brained these. Was a grade, no, two grades above them.

Hughie Bowman jumped him out fast and just thought to himself, you know what, I’m on a horse that is profoundly better than these. So he rode him away from the group.

Three off the fence all the way, the further the race went the faster he got and the wider the winning margin which was nearly 6 lengths in the end eased down.

With his head on his chest, this $165,000 yearling purchase looked supreme and is now two from two in his racing career.

He’s headed to the $3million Gr 1 Golden Slipper in March. The 1200m looks no worry.

The Micks from Melbourne, Price and Kent train this horse and they must be shaking with eager anticipation in their boots given how good he is.

“Well, I’ve had a lot of good 2YOs, and I was concerned when he was breaking 11sec early,” said Price.

“Because they don’t keep going when running at that speed. But, I also knew he was brilliant and he was very brilliant today.

“It would be difficult to take him back to Melbourne now for the Blue Diamond, then 2 weeks later bring him back here for the big race. So I will be picking the Golden Slipper for him.

“They don’t hold up forever, anyway you saw how outstanding he was in this.”

His rider, Hughie Bowman though he might get booked for speeding.

As he was returning to scale, Bowman was shaking his fist with glee.

He rode last year’s winner of the Gr 1 Golden Slipper Stakes and knows a thing or two about super fast juveniles.

“I must admit I thought he was capable of doing that. You can’t say it before the race and be too confident,” said the champion rider.

“But he will only improve on that.

“I think if he harness his talent. The world is his oyster and he is the benchmark of 2YOs.

“He wanted to go with me.

“From the 600m mark he just wanted to run. He has natural athleticism that on the greats possess.

“He certainly has an exciting 6 months or so ahead of him.”

Profiteer who was $15 two weeks ago, is now $5 to win the 2021 Golden Slipper with Palmerbet.

Many lengths behind him today in 2nd place was the $101 chance BARANOF (Hinchinbrook-Schiaparelli) who finished hard to just nose out Adelaide’s PEGASI (Star Turn-Draw Forward) who started at $31.

Then the rest of the big field came home in long intervals behind this speed freak.
