Can Redstone well emulate Durston for Highclere Australia in capturing the Wyong Leagues Group Wyong Gold Cup of 2100m and go onto to claim the Caulfield Cup.
Priced at $9.50 by Ladbrokes, Redstone Well will be in the hands of Irishman Tom Sherry, jumping from Barrier 1 in a field of 11 runners for trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.
In coming off a good third in the Premier’s Cup Prelude to Golden Path and Manzoice, who he meets again, he was first-up from a four week break, having earlier won over 1600m at Randwick.
With both Redstone Well and Durston racing in the light and dark blue silks of Highclere Australia, it is both horses who have shared the same career paths here as well as in England and Ireland.
Redstone Well won three races up to 1m1½f for owner breeders Richard Ahern, while Durston won up to 1m6½f at Doncaster and Chester for Highclere and Newmarket trainer David Simcock.
In Australia Durston won over 2000m at Flemington for trainers Cairon Maher and David Eustance, and with Chris Waller won the Wyong Gold Cup, Newcastle Gold Cup and the Caulfield Cup.
So what for Redstone Well in also targeting the Newcastle Cup of 2300m, and the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup over 2400m, while Durston had finished sixth in The Metropolitan also 2400m.
Similarly bred, Redstone Well is by the sprinting sire Cotai Glory, from the Raging Bull mare Pingin Rue, a half-sister to Papagena Star, and was passed in at the 2020 Tattersalls September Yearling.
While Durston was a 52,000 Gns buy for Highclere at the 2017 Tattersalls October Sale, sired by the German Derby winner Sea The Moon, and half-brother to Cubanita from the winner Caribana.
And with this year’s $250,00 Wyong Leagues Group sponsored Wyong Gold Cup being a Big Dance qualifier, it’s the first two finisher who qualify for the $3m Big Dance on Tuesday 5 November.
