Victoria’s three racing codes have come together in support of the fifth annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week which runs from 17 to 23 May.
Racing Victoria Limited, Harness Racing Victoria and Greyhound Racing Victoria will assist the State Government initiative to promote the need for a balanced approach to gambling.
Throughout the week, all three codes will feature advertisements in race books, on big screens at race meetings and on industry websites.
The week deliberately focuses on responsible gambling, not problem gambling, and aims to ensure people understand the importance of keeping their gambling under control.
Racing Victoria Chief Executive Rob Hines was at the launch of the week at Flemington on Saturday.
“Having a punt on the races is a great Australian tradition, but it is important to stay in control of your wagering and not let it take over your lifeâ€, Mr Hines said.
If your gambling is causing issues in your life, you can take steps to change this. Talking about gambling with somebody you trust can reduce the stress that can cause you to continue to gamble. If you have an issue with gambling there is free, confidential professional help and support available.
For immediate help you can call 1800 858 858 now. There will be someone to answer your call. Or, visit Gambling Help Online at www.gamblinghelponline.org.au for live counselling, email support and self-help tools.
