Rosehill racecourse to make way for residential housing

The government has formally entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Australian Turf Club (ATC) following their proposal to repurpose Rosehill Gardens Racecourse into a residential enclave comprising up to 25,000 homes and a school, accompanied by a strategically located station.

Under the terms of the agreement, the ATC is slated to retain ownership of the site throughout the development process. Simultaneously, plans include the establishment of a horse facility at Horsley Park to accommodate the relocation of up to 400 animals. Furthermore, the initiative encompasses the redevelopment of Warwick Farm Racecourse into what is described as a “new world-class track.”

Premier Chris Minns has characterized this venture as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to effectively address the persistent housing crisis in the state. He emphasised that the collaboration with the ATC not only ensures the ongoing viability of racing in New South Wales but also offers a significant contribution to tackling the housing challenges.

Minns articulated, “The ATC sees this as a chance to secure the future of racing in NSW. The government sees this as an opportunity to put its money where its mouth is and build more housing, close to transport links, with plenty of green space for new families. This is exactly the type of proposal my government has been talking about over the last six months.”

The partnership reflects a comprehensive approach to concurrently support the racing industry and address the urgent need for additional housing, presenting a holistic solution for the benefit of the community.
