Russian Revolution will be racing for more than a major cut of prize money when he runs in a stakes race at Moonee Valley.
The four-year-old is an early flagbearer for the new Melbourne set-up of father-and-son training partners Peter and Paul Snowden who have 30 boxes at Flemington.
Russian Revolution, a $3.50 early second favourite, contests Saturday’s Group Two McEwen Stakes.
Paul Snowden was based at Flemington when his father Peter was training for Darley before John O’Shea took over and it became known as Godolphin in 2014.
The younger Snowden hopes to have the stables full year round, saying it was important to attract Victorian clients.
“You’ve got to keep heads over the doors, otherwise you’re losing money,” he said.
“It’s good for an option down here (Melbourne) but when you’ve got the stakes up there plus the BOBS it’s better to leave those horses there.
“We’ve got a few VOBIS horses and it’s important that we get some Victorian clients because this is not a sort term thing, we’re locked in and want to make it work.”
Saturday’s race over 1000m will be Russian Revolution’s third trip to Melbourne, but his first to Moonee Valley.
He won at Caulfield last year and finished fourth in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington last November.
Snowden said it was pleasing Russian Revolution had been kept in work.
“He’s always been a special horse and full credit to the owners for racing him on,” Snowden said.
“He’s in his four-year-old year and I believe he’s still got more to offer at Group One level and that starts on Saturday.
“It’s no pushover as there’s some lovely horses in the race.”
Russian Revolution next scheduled appearance is in the Group One Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 29 where he’s expected to be joined by stablemate Redzel.
