September born locked in for Belgravia Battle

One of the major players for the Pinnacles carnival September Born is set to make a keenly anticipated return to racing in tomorrow’s Macmahon Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot.

The Neville Parnham-trained galloper made a significant impression on race debut as a two-year-old earlier this year, then again as a three-year-old in a 1000m trial at Belmont earlier this month.

Such was the impression he made, September Born is the $7 TABtouch favourite for December’s Northerly Stakes (1800m), a race his sister Kay Cee won in 2019.

Parnham said September Born, who’s first target was the WA Guineas next month, could follow in the footsteps of Kay Cee.

“That would be the plan,” Parnham told TABradio.

“This horse has a better turn of acceleration than she did.

“If he does things right and gets to the Guineas and runs particularly well, we will look at that race.”

The first assignment for September Born is a clash with another exciting galloper West Star in tomorrow’s Listed event.

The Playing God colt, to be ridden by Parnhanm’s son Brad, is a $3.20 chance with TABtouch for the feature, while West Star heads up the market at $2.40.

West Star was a big winner at the barrier draw, where he will jump from the inside draw, while September Born will have to overcome barrier 12.

Parnham, who also has Onemoretwomany in the Belgravia, said he was confident September Born was going well enough to win, despite the draw.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him front up there on Saturday,” Parnham told TABradio.

“He hasn’t drawn the best, but he has done particularly well.

“He worked a bit better than Onemoretwomany through the line and after the line.

“There’s a fair bit hype around him and he needs to prove that on Saturday.”

September Born is set to start in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 9, prior to the WA Guineas a fortnight later.
