Sierra Sue is headed to Brisbane to chase black type at Eagle Farm

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are sending their lightly-raced mare Sierra Sue to Brisbane chasing black type at Eagle Farm.

In the search for more ‘black type’ for Sierra Sue, Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young are sending the lightly-raced mare north to Brisbane.

Sierra Sue left the couple’s Cranbourne stable on Saturday night ahead of running in the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The uncertainty of air transport from Melbourne to Brisbane forced Busuttin and Young to send Sierra Sue on the less preferred option of travelling by truck.

Last week, those accompanying horses flying into Queensland from Melbourne via Air Horse Transport would have been required to undergo two weeks of hotel quarantine under a directive from Queensland Health.

On Sunday, Queensland Health relaxed those rules.

Young said it was not ideal to send the mare by truck, but uncertainty forced their hand to get the mare to Brisbane for the Queensland Winter Carnival.

“We’ve done it plenty of times before,” Young said.

“It doesn’t take too much out of them but it would have been nice to fly her up on Tuesday night.

“The way we are going about it, she stopped in Sydney for 12 hours before going on again, whereas if you fly them up, it’s six hours box to box.”

Sierra Sue has won five of her 10 starts, with four of her victories coming on the country circuit at Sale.

The daughter Darci Brahma has shown a liking for big spacious tracks by taking out the Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last October before heading to Sydney to contest the Golden Eagle at Rosehill.

Sierra Sue did not come up during an autumn campaign, failing in two runs, the most recent in the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in February.
