Star colt Best of Bordeaux’s racing days have come to an end as Coolmore Stud announces his transition to join their impressive stallion roster in 2023. Coolmore’s Tom Magnier revealed that the Group 2 winner, son of Snitzel, faced a challenging bout of pneumonia during the summer, prompting connections to shift their focus to the breeding barn.
Best of Bordeaux emerged as a two-year-old sensation, claiming victory in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes and Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes, followed by a valiant second place in the Group 1 Golden Slipper. Under trainer Kacy Fogden, he continued his success at age three, winning the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes and securing third place against older horses in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes.
Expecting strong interest from breeders, Magnier announced an introductory service fee of $27,500 for the promising stallion. “Snitzel is one of the best stallions we have seen in Australia this century and already a successful sire of sires,” he said, comparing Best of Bordeaux’s speed and accomplishments at age two to other notable sire sons of Snitzel, such as Shamus Award and Russian Revolution.
Magnier is confident that Best of Bordeaux is the ideal choice for breeders targeting sales like the Magic Millions January yearling sale.
