The thousands of Aussies watching Royal Ascot tonight, will be delighted to know they have some Down Under interest to cheer.
Day 2 is set to start tonight on Sky Racing and a few with Aussie heritage should be supported.
Firstly, our own former champion mare Atlantic Jewel will be represented at the Royal meet tonight by her son RUSSIAN EMPEROR (Galileo) in the Gr 3 Hampton Court set to run at 10:50pm.
At his latest start he was Gr 3 placed in Ireland, and would have won in three more bounds, so he will be competitive here. Meanwhile, Atlantic Jewel is back in Australia and was covered by Triple Crown victor Justify.
Up next is the brilliant Aidan O’Brien trained JAPAN (Galileo), who is a brother to Aussie stakes winners MAURUS and SIR ISAAC NEWTON. He contests the main race on the card, the Gr 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at midnight.
One more with an Aussie connection of note is RAISING SAND (Oasis Dream) who is the uncle of emerging Aussie sensation, recent Gr 1 winner RUSSIAN CAMELOT.
Raising Sand, will be just one of 23 runners in the Royal Hunt Cup which gets underway at 12:35am.
And finally, honorary Aussie, RED CADEAUX, who 3 x was runner-up in the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup, has a little brother trying for glory at the Royal meet.
His name is AMAZING RED and he runs in race 7, the Copper Horse Hcp at 1:40am.
