Star Of India, once a Group 1 Epsom Derby contender, is poised to make his return after 82 weeks, targeting the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. The Annabel Neasham-trained star, undefeated in Australia, last graced the track with a stunning debut victory in the Rosehill Gold Cup in October 2022.
Formerly under Aidan O’Brien’s tutelage, Star Of India faced setbacks due to a tendon injury during his Australian preparation. After extensive rehabilitation at Limitless Lodge with Tim Boland, he resumed training with Neasham earlier this year.
Ben Vassallo of BK Racing expressed satisfaction with Star Of India’s progress, noting a recent trial with blinkers that showcased promising improvement. With cautious optimism, Vassallo anticipates a strong performance over 2000m this weekend.
Star Of India, with only six starts and three victories to his name, holds potential for further success, notably in the upcoming Lord Mayor’s Cup. His nomination for both the Rosehill and Eagle Farm events underscores his readiness for a triumphant return to racing.
