Melbourne Cup winner Subzero continues his battle for his life on Thursday morning with the next two or three days critical to his survival.
Subzero was only hours away from being euthanised although he has started to respond to treatment which has seen him recover marginally in his battle with kidney related issues following his bout of colic earlier in the week.
Subzero who turns 32 in a few weeks is currently on an intravenous drip after his kidney had shown signs of shutting down but owner Graham Salisbury is confident the horse can make a recovery.
βThe next two or three days are everything,β Salisbury said this morning.
βHeβs not on deathβs door but heβs deep in the woods. Iβm reasonably confident we can get him back but itβs up to him and the vets.β
This is not the first time the Melbourne Cup winner has been on deaths the horse required urgent medication from the US in the early 2000’s to stay alive he again almost lost his life three years later with a bowel obstruction.
