The ideally name SUPER (Snitzel-Good Weekend) won in brilliant fashion at Newcastle on Saturday and is headed to much, much bigger things now.
That’s according to his trainer Mark Minervini, who was shaking with emotion and excitement after his 5YO powered home to beat the touted Englishman SPIRIT RIDGE (Nathaniel-Tates Creek) and the tough-as-nails ULUSABA (Exceed and Excel-Mabsam) in a BM 78 Hcp over 1600m in 1.37.7.
Minervini, who has craved a city success since relocating his workplace and life from Adelaide to Newcastle a few months got his wish today with a horse he and some family members part-own.
“It’s strange how that works out, but I’m over the moon to get a city win on my new home track,” he said.
“I can tick a city win off my bucket list now and head him towards something much bigger.
“He’s a ball of muscle, he just loves it here in Newcastle and he’s on the way up. He’s absolutely air-born so I think you’ll see him back up next week and I’ll head to The Gong.”
That race is worth $1million and will be run at Kembla Grange.
Said young rider Tommy Sherry as he dismounted from the horse, “he loves a fast pace and in those big races he’ll get that so he would be in with a chance.
“He is really flying at present.”
Minervini has a stable of 17 in work at Newcastle as he attempts to grow his reputation which was very high in Adelaide.
Super has now won 5 races from 22 starts for $152,045 in prizemoney.
