Trainer Symon Wilde is optimistic about Dashing Duchess’s chances in The Archer at Flemington this Saturday, where the winner secures a golden ticket to the Melbourne Cup. Wilde believes the timing is ideal for his in-form mare, who has won her past two starts at The Valley, including a Quality Handicap over 2500 meters.
Wilde sees The Archer as a good test to gauge Dashing Duchess’s potential as an up-and-coming stayer. “She’s in form and up and running. She deserves a shot in a race like this,” he said. If successful, Wilde plans to pursue the Melbourne Cup entry.
He also noted the three-week gap between runs suits her preparation. Meanwhile, stablemate Aurora’s Symphony, a Melbourne Cup nominee, is more likely to target the Geelong Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. “You never know,” Wilde added about Aurora’s Symphony’s chances.
