Read what each of the jockeys had to say about their rides in the 2024 Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on Saturday 29th June.
Ryan Maloney (Bella Nipotina): “She began beautifully and I thought, ‘this is going to work out perfect’. There was good, genuine speed. I was hoping Blake (Shinn would kick out and leave Michael (Rodd) three deep and hopefully have a bit of cover, but in the end it really didn’t matter. She toyed with them. She got into a nice enough rhythm and good horses do what they do, they just know how to win.”
Dylan Gibbons (Semana): “Not much you can do there. I followed her (Bella Nipotina) everywhere and she just dropped me, but my girl’s all heart and she’ll get a well-deserved Group 1 soon.”
Billy Egan (Bubble Rock): “Real gutsy mare, she gave a real good kick. I actually think she’ll be better with another preparation in Australia and come back better. That was gutsy today.”
Martin Harley (Abounding): “Massive run. Obviously, a tricky barrier, but my god, she wears her heart on her sleeve and it was another solid run.”
Tim Clark (Roots): “She ran really well. She had a nice run throughout, following the right horses and she wasn’t beaten too far.”
Tommy Berry (Opal Ridge): “Had a beautiful run. I’m not sure if she’s whacked herself when we had to duck back to the inside, but something’s happened. Her action changed and she started to give ground, so I just eased her out of the race to look after her. Hopefully it’s nothing bad.”
Angela Jones (Comrade Rosa): “She had a wide run with cover and took the longest route home. Probably better than it looked.
Jim Byrne (Vienna Princess): “We utilised that barrier, held her ground early and she raced through the line nice. She gives you the feeling she’s a miler, but probably doesn’t run the mile. When they accelerated, she wasn’t able to accelerate with them. It was a good effort.”
Blake Shinn (C’est Magique): “She can be forgiven. She just didn’t rest well enough in the early stages to run a strong seven furlongs out.”
Reece Jones (Lekvarte): “Finished the race off strong, just raced in a bit of restricted room down the straight.”
Tyler Schiller (Ausbred Flirt): “I was rapt with her run. She’s probably not mustering enough to put herself in the race, but I think going up to the mile might suit.”
Robbie Dolan (More Secrets): “Tough race. Just had a bit of a checkered path up the straight, didn’t get a full, clear crack at them, but she ran well.”
Michael Rodd (Zoe’s Promise): “Just wasn’t able to find that comfortable zone she likes to roll along in. That just had her off the bit for too long.”
Tom Sherry (Coco Jamboo): “Jumped well and got into a good position, but we just copped a couple of bumps there midrace and it fired her up a little bit. She closed off okay.”
Vlad Duric (Roll On High): “Good effort. Gave me a sweet ride in the run. Would’ve liked to have been a touch closer, but she just doesn’t help you a bit early. Closed off good without being her brilliant best. I think she’s probably ready for the paddock and it was a good, credible run.”
James Orman (Miss Joelene): “She just probably needs a break. It’s a big ask coming back from 2200m, but she’ll be a nice horse next preparation.”
Damien Thornton (Banana Queen): “Disappointing.”
