Tempted leads home juvenile trifecta for Godolphin

Godolphin stacked the bases in the opening race at Warwick Farm with four of the seven runners and it proved a prudent move as they came away with the trifecta – all sired by their stallion Street Boss.

It was filly Tempted ($2.40 fav) who came out on top, the half-sister to multiple stakes winner Kallos stalking stablemate Daphnes ($8.50) and overpowering her in the straight to take out Wednesday’s Pinatubo First Yearlings Handicap (1000m).

While her winning margin was narrow, jockey Zac Lloyd said Tempted had more in the tank.

“She will be a nice filly over six furlongs but I always felt in control,” Lloyd said.

“She was having a good look. She picked up Daphnes pretty quickly and just toyed with her the last 100 and she’s no slouch.”

Formerly apprenticed to Godolphin head trainer James Cummings before joining the senior riding ranks last month, Lloyd had ridden both Tempted and third placegetter Lipstick ($6.50) at the trials.

He admitted he didn’t get to choose which member of Sheikh Mohammed’s squad he rode on race day, but was happy to be offered the mount on Tempted.

“She is a very nice filly. She really impressed me at her first trial and was equally impressive in her second trial,” Lloyd said.

“I didn’t get the choice of the ones today, but she would have been my choice.”

Godolphin assistant trainer Victoria “Dizzy” Appleby indicated Tempted had been pleasing the team at home and had raced to expectations.

“She is so professional in everything she does, she takes everything in her stride,” Appleby said.

“I’m sure from this run, as long as she pulls up OK, we will make a nice little plan for her.

“One thing about her, she does relax nicely and she does show that nice little bit of dash when asked.”

Appleby was also thrilled with the effort of Daphnes, who she said had continued to improve from her trials to race day.
