Terrifictonka, the 10th and final foal of Melbourne Cup legend Makybe Diva, is set to debut at Kembla Grange on Saturday. The five-year-old daughter of More Than Ready has been retained by breeder Tony Santic after Makybe Diva was retired from stud duties in 2019.
Now under the care of trainer Clarry Conners, Terrifictonka will be ridden by Jean Van Overmeire over 1400 meters in Race 6. Conners, who took over from Anthony and Sam Freedman, is optimistic about her debut, saying, “She’s coming along okay, and I think there’s a win in her. She’s a stayer for sure.”
Conners plans to race Terrifictonka up on the pace, hoping the long straight at Kembla will suit her style. “It wouldn’t shock me (to win), the plan is to try and win,” Conners said. Currently, Terrifictonka is a $10 chance with Ladbrokes.
Terrifictonka is the last of Makybe Diva’s progeny to race, following a challenging journey that included a back injury requiring a long spell. Despite these hurdles, Conners is confident in her potential, with plans to step her up to 1800 meters after her debut.
Makybe Diva, who recently celebrated her 26th birthday at Flemington, leaves a lasting legacy, with Terrifictonka aiming to add to it on the track.
