The Everest is on the brink of receiving Group 1 status, with racing insiders confident of a successful last-minute push.
Reports suggest this upgrade in status is a chance to be confirmed before the October 19 race at Randwick, recognising The Everest as one of the sport’s elite events.
Racing NSW chief Peter V’landys and Racing Victoria’s Aaron Morrison have been collaborating to secure the upgrade, which also includes Victoria’s All-Star Mile.
The Everest, known for its innovative slot race format and impressive field of past winners like Nature Strip and Giga Kick, will celebrate its eighth running this year.
The Asian Pattern Committee’s administrative approval is the final hurdle, with a decision anticipated shortly.
