Despite heavy rain in Sydney on Friday and more forecasted for race day, Randwick track manager Michael Wood remains optimistic about Saturday’s first day of The Championships proceeding as planned.

With up to 200mm of rain expected on Friday and an additional 10-50mm anticipated on race day, concerns about the track’s condition are understandable.

Despite the challenges, the track was assessed as a Soft 7 on Friday morning, with 54mm of rain having fallen.

Wood expressed satisfaction with the track’s presentation and indicated that there is flexibility to make decisions closer to race time.

Saturday’s forecast includes sunny breaks, which could aid in drying the track throughout the day.

While postponing the meeting for 24 hours has been discussed, it seems unlikely due to scheduling conflicts with the Inglis sale on Sunday and Monday.

If the track cannot handle the forecasted rain, rescheduling The Championships for a week later might be considered as an alternative option.
