Good news from Kylie Scott, wife of trainer Brett Scott, is that her husband is on the mend and is ‘doing well’ in his recovery following a nasty accident at his Mornington property back on March 3.

On that day Scott was kicked in the head by a horse. It was a very serious situation and Scott was airlifted to the Alfred hospital where medical staff stabilised him and doctors placed him in an induced coma.

At the time Australian Trainers’ Association Chief Executive Andrew Nicholl confirmed that Scott had skull fractures and a bleed on the brain, as well as a deep laceration to his temple area, which led to doctors deciding to place him in an induced coma.

Plastic surgery followed the day after the incident.

It was always going to be a long way back, but the former jumps jockey has responded well, and his steady progress now sees him being readied to move back to a general ward.

Talking to Racing.com, Kylie Scott gave the following insight into Brett Scott’s current situation.

“He’s come out of the post-traumatic amnesia. He is doing well,” Kylie Scott said. “They are waiting on a bed to put him in a general ward and then they will give him a bit more intense physio over the next few weeks and then after that he can come back home.

“He will just do rehab locally down here, but he will be home, which is the main thing. He just wants to get home and get back into his routine.”

The relief for Brett, Kylie and their family, as well as that of the racing fraternity and all of the families other supporters, is obvious and perhaps the best final word comes from Kylie Scott’s most recent post on social media (yesterday), where she said …

‘Our visit today was awesome. Brett is officially out of PTA (post traumatic amnesia) … he reached all the milestones that were expected of him. Now off to an open ward where they will intensify his physio and occupational therapy in readiness for coming home hopefully in a couple of weeks then will continue rehab closer to home. This husband/ father of ours is a truly remarkable human being and we can’t wait to have him home.’

**Many will remember Scott’s exploits on the mighty Karasi who Scott famously partnered to three lucrative Group 1 Grand Jump wins in Japan for three successive years in 2005, 2006 and 2007 for trainer Eric Musgrove.
