Blake Shinn, who will be the new rider for Trapeze Artist, has ridden him to win a barrier trial at Rosehill.
The Gerald Ryan-trained four-year-old disappointed punters but not his trainer when he ran fourth of five as favourite in the Expressway Stakes on February 2 on a soft track.
In Monday’s 1045m heat at Randwick, Trapeze Artist was strong to the line, beating King’s Peak by 2-3/4 lengths with Pierata third.
“I wasn’t disappointed first-up,” Ryan said.
“And he was good this morning and Blake was happy with him.
“Blake will ride him in the Canterbury Stakes and he will probably have one more trial before then on the first (March).
The Group One Canterbury Stakes (1300m) is at Randwick on March 9.
The 2017 Golden Rose winner, Trapeze Artist won the TJ Smith Stakes and All Aged Stakes the following autumn with both races on his agenda again.
