Caulfield Cup runner-up Trip To Paris has been taken out of the Doncaster Cup and will run instead in the Irish St Leger.
Last year’s Ascot Gold Cup winner has been steadily brought back to top form by trainer Ed Dunlop after missing the first half of the season through an injury suffered in the Japan Cup after his Melbourne Cup fourth.
“We think a mile and six furlongs (2800m) is what he’s looking for at the moment and while we are very aware that the favourite (Order Of St George) will be very hard to beat, we’ve decided to let Trip To Paris take his chance,” trainer Ed Dunlop’s assistant Tim Hyde said.
The news was not so good surrounding stablemate Red Verdon who has been ruled out of Saturday’s English St Leger, a day before the Irish Classic.
“Sadly Red Verdon won’t be running in the St Leger on Saturday. We were not happy enough with him after his blow out this morning,” Dunlop tweeted.
