Two $1 million slot races have been added to provincial programs as Southside Racing builds the profiles of their upcoming Cup meetings.
Southside Racing incorporates the Cranbourne and Pakenham racecourses, and each track will host a $1 million slot race on their Cup Day programs.
Both races will be for three-year-olds and older and each will be run under set-weights and penalty conditions, as they become the first slot races to be staged in Victoria.
The Meteorite will be run over 1200m on Cranbourne Cup Day, November 23, with The Supernova, over 1400m, on Pakenham Cup Day, December 21.
Slot holders have the opportunity to participate in both events for a fee of $100,000 (plus GST) and may choose the same horse to run in both races.
A part of the Southside Slot Racing Series will be the community focus with a total of $20,000 set aside for local charities and community groups across the series.
In addition to the prize money, a bonus will be paid to the slot holder that accrues the most points across both races.
Sean Clarkson, Chairman of Southside Racing, said the slot race series was a significant moment for the new entity after the Cranbourne and Pakenham racing clubs amalgamated earlier this year.
βThe introduction of the Southside Slot Series marks a significant milestone in Australian racing and a defining moment for the future of racing at Southside Racing,β Clarkson said.
βWe are thrilled to bring this innovative concept to Victoria, offering exhilarating racing action and opportunities for participants and unprecedented excitement for our new racing audience in South-East Melbourne.β
