Trainer Dan O’Sullivan said he would let the dust settle and enjoy the win of Too Darn Discreet in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) before confirming further spring ambitions.
O’Sullivan would like to press on to the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 7 via the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) five days earlier but is mindful of how the filly was laying in early in the straight.
Sent out the $3.90 betting apps favourite, Too Darn Discreet scored a neck win over Jenni’s Meadow ($10) with Femminile ($7) a long neck away third.
“We’re certainly considering the Oaks, especially the way she is, as tough as what she is,” O’Sullivan said.
“The Wakeful has proved over the years to be the form race that you need to run in to get to the Oaks, but this run will probably take a bit out of her, so we’ll see how she recovers.
“We’ll enjoy the moment today and think about what we’ll do going ahead,
“If you had thought after her run at Moonee Valley first-up that you’re going to pick up two Stakes races in the following month, it would be nearly job done, she can go and have a break and come back for the autumn.
“But we don’t see many fillies staying at the moment, so we might keep going.”
