If we just study records, then Te Akau’s brilliant mare MELODY BELLE (Commands – Meleka Belle) is the all-time greatest Gr 1 winning race horse from New Zealand.
Today she led home a stable quinella when she beat out AVANTAGE (Fastnet Rock – Asavant) to win the Gr 1 Bonecrusher at Ellerslie racetrack in Auckland.
Today’s win takes her to 14 Gr 1 wins, surpassing the wonder mare Sunline who is on 13.
Melody Belle, known around the stables as Valerie was purchased as a yearling by Te Akau’s David Ellis, who is probably the most blessed yearling buyer in the history of yearling buyers.
