Winx’s three-quarter sister, Wings Of Desire, made an impressive winning debut at Hawkesbury on Sunday, navigating through traffic to secure an impressive win.
The two-year-old filly, the final offspring of Winx’s dam, the late Vegas Showgirl, was retained for racing by breeder John Camilleri. Michael Freedman, known for his expertise with two-year-olds, is her trainer.
Following a promising trial last week, Wings Of Desire attracted significant attention and betting support for her 1100-metre debut, ultimately being backed into $2.70 as the clear favourite with betting apps.
Her race, however, was not without challenges. Under jockey Tommy Berry, she settled two pairs back along the fence and had to fight for clear running space.
Once a gap opened, Wings Of Desire seized the opportunity with poise, surging forward to take the lead and secure a comfortable one-length victory.
It’s a winning debut for Winx’s little half-sister!
