Like her famous older half-sister, Time Of My Life got her career off the perfect start when she won the three-year-old fillies maiden at Geelong on Friday.
The daughter of I Am Invincible and Vegas Showgirl, which makes her a half-sister to the immortal Winx, scored an impressive win in the 1121-metre event.
The victory brought a smile to the face of co-trainer Peter Moody, who prepares in partnership with Katherine Coleman, given John Camilleri – who bred Winx and retains Time Of My Life – travelled from New South Wales to see the win.
“It’s a bit like Black Caviar’s foals, it’s a pity who their mother is, because there’s always that added layer of expectation,” Moody, who trained unbeaten sprinter Black Caviar, said.
“She’s always shown good quality from Day 1 this filly, (she’s a) really nice filly.
“I think that’s as good a maiden as there’s been in Victoria for 12 months. Not only on pedigree, but ability, so she’s done a good job there. Upwards and onwards hopefully.”
Time Of My Life became the second daughter of Vegas Showgirl to win on debut at Geelong this year following the win over City Of Lights over 1418m at the same track in June.
Vegas Showgirl has now had five to race for four winners with four-time Cox Plate winner Winx clearly the best of them.
Time Of My Life ($4.60) settled just behind the leading pair, travelled up ominously early in the straight and edged clear over the final 150m to score a 1-3/4-length win over Bad Girl Bubbles ($31) with $1.80 favourite Isthmus– the first foal from triple Group 1 winner Shoals – close up third.
Moody is keen to quickly raise the bar with her with a $200,000 Group 3 event at The Valley on September 30 a likely next start.
“I was keen to get a run into her today because we’ve got the Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley in a fortnight, I’ve got that sort of opinion of her,” Moody said.
