Former UK galloper Tatsumaki has made a remarkable comeback, remaining undefeated after a 1258-day hiatus.
The six-year-old clinched victory in a Benchmark 74 race at Caulfield earlier this month, marking his fourth consecutive win. Co-trainer Will Hayes highlighted the horse’s low rating, noting, “The beauty about him having such a long time off and the way that he won at Caulfield he’s still got rating points in hand.” when talking to Racing.com.
Tatsumaki’s journey has been anything but ordinary. After securing three wins in the UK, he was purchased by Hong Kong owner Edmund Lee. A tendon injury prevented his debut in Hong Kong, leading to his rehabilitation in Australia. Hayes emphasized the importance of cautious progression.
“We might take our time getting there depending on how he goes at Bendigo.” He said.
Looking ahead, the Lindsay Park team is eyeing the Group 1 Goodwood in Adelaide this May, contingent upon Tatsumaki’s performance in the upcoming Benchmark 84 over 1100m at Bendigo on April 12.
“It could culminate with a Goodwood, all things being well.” Hayes said.
