Here are the Woodbine race meeting set down for Thursday morning, comments and tips.
Good luck everyone.
Race 1 $7500 Claimer 1600m – 8.45am
SPORTSCASTER has been working well but hasn’t raced for over a year. He’s a risk to win but have in your numbers. Be wary of CAPE ROMANCE in this. Blinkers go on and we know how much they improve horses especially, like now, for the first time. Plus, this bloke has already won this season. CHRIS’ BREW has the top rider and is 3rd up from his long winter spell. Those things make him a big hope especially as this is a weak race on turf.
Tips: 1. (1) CAPE ROMANCE, 2. (9) Chris’ Brew, 3. (4) Sportscaster
Race 2 Mdn Claimer 1400m – 9:18am
It may be best to just box the 3 horses named ‘Keep’ here. Of them, well the stars are aligning for KEEP GOING. He has the pole, is with the strongest stable and his owner is winning everything of late. KEEP YOUR WORD starts as a gelding for first time here and is up from the U.S. where he ran well enough at slightly weaker level. Watch market. KEEP MARCHING was on speed from the get go this grade last start but was taken on yet still was there at the end to just miss a place. Is 2nd start here and rates highly.
Tips: 1. (1) KEEP GOING, 2. (7) Keep Marching, 3. (6) Keep Your Word
Race 3 Claimer 1200m – 9.50am
I like CONSTANTINO here. He’s old, but his zest for racing is on point still and he finishes hard. Which will suit today because at least 3 of these go like bats out of hell. SLIP KID is one of them. He’s 2nd up here and has fitness on his side now after opening his season with a good 3rd slightly tougher grade last time. MARTEN RIVER and DISTINCT PASSION know only one thing – go hard from barrier rise. They should be boxing away at the end in this slightly weaker grade.
Tips: 1. (3) CONSTANTINO, 2. (2) Slip Kid, 3. (1) Marten River
Race 4 Claimer 1400m – 10:17am
A bunch of slow girls here on turf. The home straight is a lot longer but speed can hold up when left alone. Enter SILENT CONSORT who appears the only front-runner in the field. She can control from the front here and rider David Moran is in form. VERRADASSAH is in a strong stable and has one of the top jocks on, plus has drawn to sit just behind the speed. Lots to like there. BLEZNIATKA is the baby of the field but track work has been strong and when Eurico Da Silva chooses to ride you, he generally gets a result.
Tips: 1. (4) SILENT CONSORT, 2. (8) Blezniatka, 3. (2) Verradassah
Race 5 Optional Claimer 1700m – 10:50am
The entire Armata clan, and there are a few of them training at Woodbine, know how to get a horse fit and we have one of them here in PHIL’S GLORY. She was claimed after a stunning finishing burst to win an easier race last start and this is her debut for Mr Armata. Gets home hard. LADY BELLA went toe to toe all the way on a day where horses were coming home last start when facing first level allowance field last time out, coming up short. She should appreciate this more as it looks considerably easier. MONSOON RAIN had a wide run on a rail favouring day in her first run this campaign on May 26 then raced evenly on the turf on June 30. She too is coming back in grade but is inconsistent.
Tips: 1. (2) LADY BELLA, 2. (3) Phil’s Glory, 3. (4) Monsoon Rain
Race 6 Claimer 1200m – 11:19am
There might not be much of a price about IN VIEW here because he looks so well placed. Is coming back a long way to mid week grade here after being deep throughout and not far away in a much stronger race last start. He’s back on the Tapeta here but does boast good form on this surface and really, looks a cut above these. MACHO T isn’t as good as In View but does look the leader and that’s a bonus around this track on this surface. Is fit now after a solid 3rd a few weeks back. Put in your numbers. I love horses coming back in class and TALE OF VIENNA is that here. He got handled last start but this race must be 6 lengths inferior.
Tips: 1. (5) IN VIEW, 2. (1) Macho T, 3. (3) Tale Of Vienna
Race 7 Mdn Claimer 1000m – 11:50am
Trainer Norm McKnight is a master at improving horses and he gets one here who started off in Florida called JEZEBEL JONES. She has a history of missing the kick down there but if I’m right and the trainer has improved her ways, she could be right in this. Especially if she steps away from the inside gate. VICTORIA GARDENS could jump away briskly and set up the speed here in what isn’t a strong race. Has the top rider Da Silva to steer as well. SIMPLY MYSTERIOUS is a conundrum. Bad draw here means she may be wide all way but blinkers go on so could be electric out of the gates. Watch market.
Tips: 1. (1) JEZEBEL JONES, 2. (7) Simply Mysterious, 3. (3) Victoria Gardens
Race 8 Allowance 1000m – 12:18pm
This is the best race on the card. Lots of speed. And that may suit an outsider here in GOLDTOWN. She can run on and did win first up by coming from a mile off the pace in easier race. Speed will test a few who like to go out hard so have her in your numbers at huge odds. Similarly, HITTERS PARK needs to be kept safe. He’s up from Kentucky where he showed he could sit off the pace and rattle home in this grade. Might take holding out. PERFECT FORESTER is one of those speed demons. Carries no weight here and has drawn to ping the lids and lead these. Small straight home is a major asset. Respect. Interestingly, he is a stablemate of Hitters Park.
Tips: 1. (2) PERFECT FORESTER, 2. (3) Hitters Park, 3. (5) Goldtown, 4. (10) Jack’s Escarpment
