Royal Ascot 2022 begins on Tuesday night, headlined by world class animal Baaeed, who will look to remain unbeaten in the Queen Anne Stakes (1600m).

Race 1. (23:30) QUEEN ANNE STAKES (GROUP 1) 1609m
The first race of the Carnival sees the shortest price favourite across the Carnival race, that being 2 Baaeed (Bet Now:Β $1.20), who is the best horse in the world. Resumed in the Lockinge at Newbury and the change up speed he produced…seriously, it was Frankel 2.0, and we know what that horse did in this race in 2012. I doubt it’ll be as arrogant as that freakish performance, but it’ll be another Group l win for Baaeed.
1 Accidental Agent (Bet Now:Β $51.00) has a love affair with Ascot and this will be his fifth run in this race, winning it all the way back in 2018. He ran in the Victoria Cup over 1400m here last time out and worked to the line strongly from off the speed to finish second. Proven performer, he’ll run well again.
6 Sir Busker (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is one at massive odds who could sneak a place. He ran fifth in the Lockinge behind Baaeed and while he was never a factor, he did make up some headway and I actually thought the run was okay. He is best when ridden cold and getting last look, so hopefully that eventuates.
Race 2. (00:05) COVENTRY STAKES (GROUP 2) 1207m
10 Persian Force (Bet Now:Β $3.80) looks very much above average. Richard Hannon trains this colt, who gave them a spanking like a good horse on debut at Doncaster before proving that was no fluke with another impressive display at Newbury. He has got sharp change up speed and that will be suited on top of the ground.
1 Age Of Kings (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a horse with talent. Arguably should have won on debut at Naas but just wandered a bit under pressure. He then went to Curragh and was much too good for them. He’s a horse with good ability that is bred to be better as a three year old but has the O’Brien polish.
13 Royal Scotsman (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a knockout chance. He was very good here on debut behind Noble Style before going to Goodwood where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, winning by five lengths. That Ascot race on debut, it rated through the roof, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 3. (00:40) KING'S STAND STAKES (GROUP 1) 1005m
Dry track, sustained speed, in form…I think 5 Golden Pal (Bet Now:Β $3.50) can get the job done here and secure his ticket for The Everest. 1000m of the Ascot straight in the King’s Stand is the toughest 1000m in world racing, and that is the knock with him, but I am banking on his brilliant early speed to come to the fore, and the big tick is that regular rider Iraz Ortiz Jr is making the trip over from the US to ride.
Aussie hat on, I’d love to see 12 Nature Strip (Bet Now:Β $3.20) spank these. But we know that he is a flat track bully and loves to get control, as seen in the TJ Smith where it was essentially a barrier trial and he bolted up. The ratings say he is the best sprinter in the world and does have A1 1200m form, which will hold him in good stead.
10 Man Of Promise (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is very capable. Charlie Appleby trains and he comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Al Quoz down the straight at Meydan and it was a meeting where in terms of the straight races, the outside fence was absolute gold, and he wasn’t there. He stayed on quite well when third. I think fresh in a fast run 1000m, he can launch late.
Race 4. (01:20) ST JAMES'S PALACE STAKES (GROUP 1) 1602m
6 Coroebus (Bet Now:Β $1.65) picks himself. 2000 Guineas winner who did find the best part of the track but was still impressive to the line in winning, beating a classy animal in Native Trail. He has the runs on the board, he is the class of the field…not sure I could dive into the shorts, but he wins barring bad luck.
11 My Prospero (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is a horse with good talent for William Haggas. He is 2/2 this time in, the latest win bolting up at Sandown when tracking the speed before being clicked up by Marquand and away he went, spanking them in an impressive display. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
7 Light Infantry (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is a knockout chance. 2/2 to start his career as a juvenile. Spelled and resumed in the 2000 Guineas where he was run off his legs early but I loved the way he picked up late in the piece behind Coroebus, despite being seven lengths, but his late splits were very good. If he’s within range, he can be dangerous at a massive price.
Race 5. (02:00) ASCOT STAKES (HANDICAP) 4014m
3 Coltrane (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the each way bet for me in this race. He ran Chester Cup last month and looked all over a winner when booting clear but was beaten by Ryan Moore magic aboard Cleveland, who sucked in behind and drove hard late to win. 4000m should be fine and each way at around double figures, he’ll do me.
13 Bring On The Night (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has the Mullins/Moore combo so clearly he commands respect. I will say that this isn’t the best horse Willie has brought to this race, and his form is a touch on the suspect side, but the fact he decides to run here and Ryan Moore is booked, tells me he’s here to rock and roll.
9 Who Dares Wins (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is a previous Royal Ascot winner who will have no issue with the trip. Jury was out on him last season, but he showed this time in that he is capable over the jumps. Tom Marquand gets on very well with him and on top of the ground, he’s a sneaky chance at a big price.
Race 6. (02:35) WOLFERTON STAKES (LISTED) 2004m
If you can trust the last start performance of 1 Cadillac (Bet Now:Β $7.00), then bet up with confidence. Blinkers went on at Leopardstown and the end result was a dominant win. I will say he didn’t beat much, but the manner in which he put them away was impressive. I think he can go on with it.
9 Juan Elcano (Bet Now:Β $8.00) won this race last year and appears to have been set for it. Ran in a three horse race fresh at Sandown and ran last, but did parade quite big in condition and ran accordingly. It looks like this is a target race, defend the title from last year, and if he brings his effort from last year, he’ll be hard to beat.
5 Star Safari (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is first up here for Charlie Appleby and commands respect. He had a three run prep in Dubai, highlighted by a narrow win over 2000m at Listed level. Go back to March last year, he was six lengths off Mishriff, a form line which clearly reads well for this.
Race 7. (03:10) COPPER HORSE STAKES (HANDICAP) 2847m
4 Okita Soushi (Bet Now:Β $9.00) on top. Progressive stayer for Joseph O’Brien that resumed over 2400m at Curragh and worked to the line strongly when second to impressive winner and stablemate, Raise You. I think the rise to 2800m is ideal, he’s got upside and will be strong late.
5 Cleveland (Bet Now:Β $3.20) rates highly. He’s been earmarked as a potential Melbourne Cup contender, so what he does here will be fascinating. 12/10 ride from Ryan Moore saw him win the Chester Cup, riding the patient race to run the 3700m out strongly. A win here and he likely books his ticket for Flemington, so keen to see how he goes.
11 Juan De Montalban (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a lightly raced galloper that comes into this in winning form. He was a dominant winner over 2400m here last time out where he had a suck run behind the speed before peeling into clear air and away he went for a super win. He can measure up.
