The Royal Ascot Carnival continues on Wednesday night, with the seven race meeting highlighted by the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2000m).

Race 1. (22:15) Silver Royal Hunt Cup 1600m
15 Ouzo (Bet Now: $4.50) for me in the opener. Ryan Moore steers for Richard Hannon. Resumed over the mile at Newmarket and thought the resumption was a definite pass mark when second to Bell Rock, beaten narrowly but safely held the rest of them. Proven on affected ground and good lead that Moore sticks from Newmarket.
1 Sir Busker (Bet Now: $12.00) has had a really good 12 months, putting together some strong performances. Resumed on the All Weather at Newcastle and admittedly the race was set up for him, but he still had to take advantage of it and he rightfully did. Good test here, but handles affected ground and Oisin Murphy rides him well.
20 Ambassadorial (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Jane Chapple-Hyam trained son of Elusive Quality who produced a career PB on turf last time out at Newmarket when second to impressive winner Montatham, albeit he did get conditions to suit. Prior to that, his best efforts were on the All Weather, but I think Montatham is above average, so respecting that form.
Race 2. (22:50) Hampton Court Stakes 2000m
3 First Receiver (Bet Now: $3.25) on top. Sir Michael Stoute trains this New Approach colt in the colours of the Queen and I dare say this will be her best chance to win a race this week. Not sure he beat much first up on the All Weather at Kempton Park, but he spanked them by over seven lengths in decent enough time. Ryan Moore jumps off to ride the Aidan O’Brien runner but loses nothing with Frankie steering.
That Aidan O’Brien runner is 8 Russian Emperor (Bet Now: $3.75). Resumed over 2000m at Leopardstown in the Derrinstown when far from disgraced in defeat when second to stablemate Cormorant despite being a beaten favourite. He’s got the 2000m lead up run under the belt and stable has a great record in this race.
2 Kenzai Warrior (Bet Now: $12.00) could be an improver at odds. Won his first two starts in the career before resuming in the 2000 Guineas where he bombed the start and that was the end of his chances. He’s better than that and off what he did in the first two starts/wins, the 2000m here should be no issue and is a knockout chance.
Race 3. (23:25) King George V Stakes 2400m
Going the way of 3 Bright Melody (Bet Now: $6.00) for Charlie Appleby. Debuted in January with a win on the All Weather at Chelmsford before resuming in a Derby Trial at Kempton and was good in defeat when third to Berlin Tango, who goes around in the second race, so by jump time here you’ll know how strong that form is. Cheek pieces have been added and he should be fine at 2400m.
13 Kipps (Bet Now: $4.75) is a son of War Command that resumed over 2000m at Haydock in what looked a strong 3YO race and was good late when a close up second to Walkonby, spanking the rest, which is a good sign heading forward. 2400m should be fine for him and is bred to handle affected ground, which is what we’ll likely get.
7 Hukum (Bet Now: $13.00) interests me. Owen Burrows trains with Jim Crowley to steer. Hasn’t raced since November 19 when producing a brilliant finale from the back to win over the mile at Kempton Park. First up at 2400m on potentially testing ground is an interesting set up, but he looks very promising and Jim Crowley starred on Tuesday.
Race 4. (00:00) Prince of Wales’s Stakes 2000m
I think with the track having some give in it, have to be with 1 Addeybb (Bet Now: $5.50). What he did in Sydney was outstanding, winning a thrilling edition of the Ranvet before showing his class on wet ground in taking out the Queen Elizabeth. Only way he was going to be a winning threat here is if the track had cushion and it does.
5 Japan (Bet Now: $2.20) looks the one to beat on exposed form. His 3YO season was brilliant, winning the King Edward Vll, Grand Prix De Paris, the Juddmonte before a very good fourth in the Arc behind Waldgeist. That form is A1 for this and is clearly the one to beat on form. The query being does he need a firm track? Time will tell.
3 Barney Roy (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Charlie Appleby trained six year old that returns to the UK after a two run prep in Dubai, where he won both in impressive fashion. Impressive to the eye, on the clock…but the form out of those races has been ordinary, with Magic Lily, the runner up in the last run, not really firing a shot in two runs this time in. That’s the knock, but have to respect the stable.
Race 5. (00:35) Royal Hunt Cup 1600m
1 Alrajaa (Bet Now: $11.00) has to carry topweight but Jim Crowley picked his rides to perfection on Tuesday and he goes with this guy over the winner of the race last year, so that’s good enough for me. This four year old won four on the bounce when last in work, the majority being on the All Weather. Lightly raced with upside to come.
14 Bell Rock (Bet Now: $6.00) did the right thing for us at Newmarket last time out over the mile. Was first up there and finished best in a close go. Failed in decent races last year but looks a better horse this time around and gets in really well at the weights. Oisin Murphy remains on so think he has to be respected here.
11 Afaak (Bet Now: $12.00) won this race last year and is looking to repeat the dose in 2020. The negatives are that he hasn’t done a great deal since that win last year and the fact that Jim Crowley elects to ride Alrajaa over this guy, but the thing going for him is that he is proven at the track/distance and wet ground will be no issue.
Race 6. (01:10) Windsor Castle Stakes 1000m
Wesley Ward has a great record in these races and I think he brings here a good one in 20 Sunshine City (Bet Now: $7.00). Debuted over 900m at Gulfstream Park back in the US where she was beaten for early speed and was off the bit a fair way out, but ran through that pain barrier and gee she picked them up like a good horse to win well. Frankie rides and 1000m will be no issue.
2 Chief Little Hawk (Bet Now: $4.75) is an Aidan O’Brien trained juvenile that showed good early to lead them up at Navan and maintained that gallop throughout for what I thought was a pretty good win. Ryan Moore elects to ride him over other runners here, so that’s the lead in terms of stable confidence. Hard to beat.
5 Get It (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Twilight Sun that debuted over 1000m at Newmarket just under two weeks ago when near the speed throughout and though was a beaten horse 300m out/thereabouts, he kept chipping away and didn’t spit the dummy out when a narrow second to Eye Of Heaven. That attitude is a big tick.
Race 7. (01:40) Copper Horse Handicap 2850m
In the corner of 1 Collide (Bet Now: $7.00) in the get out. Hugo Palmer trains this five year old, who comes here in search of three on the bounce, which have been a Listed win at France before taking care of them on the Chelmsford All Weather. Potentially wet ground should be no issue and while he rises in weight, Ryan Moore sticks.
11 Ranch Hand (Bet Now: $4.75) is an Andrew Balding trained four year old that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Cesarewitch at Newmarket over 3600m back in October where he looked a key chance 800m out but just didn’t run the trip out. Much better suited at around this distance range and was showing good promise prior to the last run.
16 Selino (Bet Now: $11.00) is another heading in the right direction. Four year old gelding for Qatar Bloodstock that hasn’t raced since October 18 when winning over 3300m at Wolverhampton which followed a strong win over 2800m at Redcar. Brings inferior form for this, but proven stayer, has upside to come Oisin Murphy rides.
