Back Me

In terms of potential, 4 Point Lonsdale (Bet Now: $2.25) could well be the one to follow from the Carnival. Well bred son of Australia that was such an impressive winner on debut at Curragh over 1400m. Loved the way he lengthened when asked and looks a rising star. He should eat up the 1400m here on the big track and I think he’s nearly the best of the entire week.

Danger

2 Masekela (Bet Now: $4.50) has to improve a bit on what he did on debut at Goodwood, but that said, he was still a pretty sharp winner that afternoon and good lead that Oisin Murphy, who rode on debut, sticks. He still looks very raw and new to the caper, but there is a decent engine under the hood.

Long Shot

7 Sweeping (Bet Now: $12.00) is an Archie Watson trained colt that debuted at Leicester where he led and fought on pretty well when second to Dhabab, who was far from disgraced in the Coventry earlier in the week, so the form reads well, he’s got an ideal racing pattern and will run a bold race.

Race 2. (00:05) JERSEY STAKES 1408m

Back Me

Strong edition of the Jersey with a host of winning chances. 4 Creative Force (Bet Now: $4.75) is yet to prove himself beyond 1200m but is racing like the 1400m will be no issue for him at all. Impressive winner at Newbury last time out when tracking the speed before edging into clear air, showing nice change up speed and put them away. He’ll track a genuine speed here and on breeding, 1400m should be fine.

Danger

12 Naval Crown (Bet Now: $12.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the 2000 Guineas where he set a decent clip on speed and just tired late behind Poetic Flare, who of course came out to win earlier in the week here, so the form has been well and truly ticked off and he appeals back to this level.

Long Shot

3 Ace Aussie (Bet Now: $23.00) is one I could save on at a price. Two runs from a break have come at Leopardstown over 1400m and 1600m respectively, the fresh run being behind Poetic Flare, so the form does tie in quite nicely for him, he’ll appreciate a truly run 1400m. Just not sure if he wants the track too wet so watch the weather.

Race 3. (00:40) HARDWICKE STAKES 2405m

Back Me

I’m with 2 Broome (Bet Now: $4.75) for Aidan O’Brien. He ran in the Tatts Gold Cup last time out at the Curragh and just missed out on the win when a narrow second in a great battle with Helvic Dream. He hasn’t exactly fired when racing in the UK previously but he’s in career best form now.

Danger

5 Hukum (Bet Now: $7.00) is a very progressive four year old for Owen Burrows who has been targeted at this race for some time and comes here in a real purple patch after winning impressively at Goodwood last time out, producing nice change up speed when asked by Crowley. He won at this meeting last year but looks a better horse 12 months on.

Long Shot

Sir Michael Stoute has a fab record in this race so giving respect to 4 Highest Ground (Bet Now: $17.00), who was strong when winning at Leicester last time out, albeit in race weaker than this, but the stable have won this race 11 times previously, so they know what kind of horse is required and Oisin Murphy rides.

Race 4. (01:20) DIAMOND JUBILEE STAKES 1207m

Back Me

I’m with 7 Nahaarr (Bet Now: $5.50) in what is a weak edition of the Diamond Jubilee and I think a half decent Australian sprinter would spank this lot. This guy ran down the straight at York last time out and worked home strongly from the back when second to Starman. I reckon a truly run 1200m with a big field will see him get his chance to finish over the top.

Danger

10 Starman (Bet Now: $3.25) does look one of the hardest to beat. This is clearly his hardest test to date, but he’s lightly raced, progressive and pretty much the lone runner in the field with serious upside. Impressive win down the straight at York last time and if he does keep progressing, I think he can measure up.

Long Shot

5 Glen Shiel (Bet Now: $6.00) has had early interest and no surprising that given he’s a track/distance winner and likes wet ground, so the rain forecast is music to his ears. He came of age towards the end of 2020 and was good in defeat fresh at Curragh. He looks primed to run well here.

Race 5. (02:00) WOKINGHAM STAKES 1207m

Back Me

15 King’s Lynn (Bet Now: $4.75), if he handles the back up, is the one to beat. Ran in the King’s Stand on Tuesday and gee he was unlucky. Looked to be full of running but just didn’t get the clear path he needed and went around being unlucky. If he gets the rub of the green, I think he’s clearly the one and $4.50+ is more than acceptable.

Danger

14 Pendleton (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing well this time in for Michael Dods. Narrow second fresh here before getting the job done in good style at York. The key to him is getting cover and from the barrier, that should eventuate. He’ll get a suck run in behind and be strong late.

Long Shot

8 Tis Marvellous (Bet Now: $29.00) is a proven Ascot performer and is proven in this race. Jury was out last year but his two runs back from a break have been quite good. Latest run came at Newbury when a game fourth to Came In The Dark, a race that King’s Lynn ran third in. $15+ for him is a touch of overs I feel.

Race 6. (02:35) GOLDEN GATES STAKES 2004m

Back Me

Keen on 6 Alfaadhel (Bet Now: $5.50). Roger Varian trained three year old that has won his past two in impressive fashion, two back winning at Chester before spanking them at Lingfield, with his last 400m of around 22 rating super for the meeting. Handles wet ground and if he gets luck from the gate, should prove hard to beat.

Danger

8 Sir Rumi (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Richard Hannon trained galloper that ran second to Alfaadhel at Lingfield after attempting to lead throughout, with that horse just producing superior late speed. This guy then went to Haydock on testing ground and was too good. He’ll put himself near the speed and try hard.

Long Shot

3 River Alwen (Bet Now: $19.00) is a stablemate of Sir Rumi that is progressive and heading in the right direction. Got the job done two back at Newmarket before going to Newbury when at big odds and I thought he ran a positive race to finish third. Will need luck from the gate but he is capable of being dangerous.

Race 7. (03:10) QUEEN ALEXANDRA STAKES 4355m

Back Me

Each way for me in the Carnival finale via 3 Who Dares Wins (Bet Now: $15.00). I made him the best of the Carnival in this race last year and bless Tom Marquand in lifting him home. He is on for the 2021 edition and was on last time out in the Chester Cup where he had no luck at all behind Falcon Eight and clearly should have finished much closer. Proven performer that has upside and $17+ is more than acceptable.

Danger

Could 8 Falcon Eight (Bet Now: $4.50) be a Melbourne Cup contender? Has the Dermot Weld polish and is an out and out stayer. Bolted up to win the Chester Cup last time out, helped by a peach from Frankie, who remains on for here. That run proved that the trip will be no issue and has class.

Long Shot

14 Stratum (Bet Now: $4.75) was $5.50 at the time of writing and he just has to drift towards double figures and better. He has had three runs since the Melbourne Cup last year, the first one being over the jumps. His latest run came in the Vintage Crop when down the track. He does get to a more suitable trip and has the Willie Mullins eye over him.
