Ten races will be run and won at Sha Tin on Sunday, with good depth across the program.

Race 1. () Amaryllis Handicap (Class 5) 1600m
3 Charmander (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Sunday over 1400m here where he got back in the run and made up strong headway in defeat. Maps to settle much closer in the run and gets J Mac aboard. Happy to be in his corner.
2 Special Hedge (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when doing work from the wide gate to land on speed and that early burn just told on him late in the piece. Better run in transit, he can take this out.
1 Smashing Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) drops to Class 5 company and I think Is dangerous. On paper, a well held tenth last start, but he did get back to last in the run and did make up ground. If he can get a drag into the race, he can take this out.
Race 2. () Erica Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
2 Juneau Pride (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win for John Size. He hasn’t raced since Nov 9 over 1200m here when near the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when second. The rise to 1400m is ideal I feel and despite the tricky gate, he’s hard to beat against these.
1 Ka Ying Attack (Bet Now: $SP.00) won the race mentioned above from Nov 9. He got into a decent spot in transit before being asked for the effort and credit to him, he found under pressure to fend them off. The extra 200m should be fine and he has good upside/scope.
6 Mission Strike (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Dundeel for Mark Newnham that is on debut. He has had five trials dating back to October in readiness for start one and hasn’t been too bad to my eye, although he will get better over further. I’d say watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. () Hibiscus Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
2 City Thunder (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. This four year old ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he got into a decent spot in transit near the speed and tried hard to get there but in the end had to settle for a third to Happy Park. Has a kind map in his corner once again and gets a jockey upgrade with Zac Purton taking over.
1 Super Legends (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when attempting to lead throughout from the wide gate and just couldn’t quite see it through late. I think with a more patient steer from the better gate, he takes beating.
7 Patch Of Stars (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver. Son of All Too Hard that debuted over this track/distance on Nov 9 where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he closed off well in defeat I thought. Tick over trial last week was good and does get Bowman aboard. Likeable.
Race 4. () Holly Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
12 Sunday’s Serenade (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on top. Jamie Richards trained gelding that ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was good in defeat. If he can settle closer or get a drag into the race, he takes beating.
1 Roman Crown (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He ran over 1200m here on Nov 24 where he was too far back and spotted those in front a start but did make up ground and was a definite pass mark. Trialled well last Thursday and good lead that J Mac sticks from last time.
6 Another World (Bet Now: $SP.00) can improve at odds. His last run was on Nov 24 in the race mentioned above that Roman Crown contested. He got off sped and stayed on in a solid enough performance, beaten 5.5L. Racing like 1400m will suit…doubt he wins, but a first four threat.
Race 5. () Hibiscus Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
4 Blazing Wind (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance. He was odds on when racing on Nov 17 over this track/distance but he didn’t fire a shot and was very much on the plain side behind Spicy Spangle. Stewards said he had to trial before racing again and his tick over trial was quite good. Off the two efforts prior, he looks clearly the one to beat here.
9 Flying Double (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t done much wrong in two career outings and commands respect. He ran third in the Spicy Spangle race mentioned above. He worked over from the wide gate to land on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Tick over trial last Friday was good and loses nothing with Bowman taking over.
3 Sunny Da Best (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since Nov 9 when a bit on the plain side over 1400m here. He does bring fresh legs and comes back to 1200m. Very interesting that Purton is booked so watch the market.
Race 6. () Ivy Handicap (Class 4) 2000m
Keen to be with 1 Charity Gain (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is a few weeks between runs since racing over 2200m at Happy Valley where he got back in the run but tracked up with purpose and loomed but I just reckon the trip found him out late in the piece. He has that 2200m run under the belt, which holds him in good stead here, and gets J Mac. One of the best on the card.
2 Joyful Prosperity (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Danny Shum. He has won two on the bounce, the latest over this track/distance on Nov 9 when winning and was strong to the line in winning, with Charity Gain finishing third. Couple of tick over trials to keep him up to the mark and he does strike a winnable race here.
6 Billionaire Secret (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a two time track/distance winner and is racing like 2000m will suit. He ran over 1800m last time out where he got back off the speed and made up minimal headway when down the track. He’s racing like he wants more ground, which he gets here…doubt he wins, but can sneak a first four spot.
Race 7. () Pok Oi Cup (Class 3) 1200m
2 Young Superstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) will put himself on speed and take running down. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to impressive winner Divano. Good racing style and if he gets front end control, he takes beating.
5 Riding Together (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more interesting runners on the card. Former UK galloper that makes his Hong Kong debut for David Eustace. He ended his life in the UK with a dominant win at Haydock over 1200m. Three trials under the belt for the return and a good lead that Purton is booked. Watch the market.
1 Eros (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and was never really a factor behind Sing Dragon. That was at Class 2 level so he drops in grade and his best is good enough.
Race 8. () Tulip Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
1 Divano (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He was an arrogant winner two weeks ago at this track/distance, getting a peach sit just off the speed before angling clear and put them away with ease to win and win well. Maps perfect again and now his confidence is up, he can go on with it.
5 Romantic Son (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to Sha Tin for the first time after a couple of runs at Happy Valley. He placed first up before a down the track effort on Nov 20, where he didn’t seem 100%. Trialled a couple of weeks ago and seemed to move well enough to my eye, so keen to see how he goes.
6 Armed Forces (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a first four threat. He ran over this track/distance on Nov 17 where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat. Tricky draw, but with a drag into the race, he’s dangerous.
Race 9. () Spruce Handicap (Class 3) 1400m
3 Johannes Brahms (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he got too far out of his ground and made up several lengths without threatening in a good effort behind Markwin, who has the potential to be a Derby horse, so I think that form reads very well and if he can use the gate to advantage, he takes beating.
4 Beauty Crescent (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Tony Cruz. He ran third in the Markwin race mentioned above. He got off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat, beaten just under two lengths. Maps to settle much closer in the run and be effective late.
12 Casa Rochester (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love the rise to 1400m. His Hong Kong debut came over 1200m here on Nov 17 when back near last in the run but you had to like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind impressive winner Young Superstar. He’ll love the extra 200m and should be strong at the end. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 10. () Poinsettia Handicap (Class 2) 1200m
9 Operative (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me each way in the get out. He comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m two weeks when off speed and kept chasing but just found the trip a bridge too far behind Packing Hermod. Back to 1200m, maps to do no work and he should be strong late.
2 Wunderbar (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for John Size, having not raced since Nov 9 down the straight here when on speed and looked the winner when asked but just found one better in Magic Control. Back up to 1200m is ideal and his trial work since has been sharp. Hard to beat.
10 Bottomuptogether (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m here on Nov 9. He did work from the wide gate to land on speed and that early burn just told on him late in the piece behind Green N White. Like him back in trip and his trial to keep him up to the mark was quite good.
