Nunthorpe Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Nunthorpe Stakes
Race 1. (22:50) Sky Bet Handicap 2384m
13 Wafei (Bet Now: $4.40) is the way I am leaning in the opener. William Haggas trained galloper that comes through a race at Goodwood when off speed and while held on the line, he kept finding and chasing in a good effort when second. He’s got room for improvement and in a leading camp, he’ll do me.
9 Mr Monaco (Bet Now: $5.50) is heading in the right direction. Not sure he beat much at Sandown last time but the quality of the win was there for all to see, sitting on speed and loved the way he let down when asked for the big effort, proving quite strong to the line. Harder here, but confident he measures up.
7 Grey Cuban (Bet Now: $12.00) deserves a crack at a race like this. He has put together a couple of wins at Chester and each time, he has got better as the race went on, notably two back when the first off the bit but he kept finding and surged late. Really good test here, but confident he measures up.
Race 2. (23:25) Lonsdale Cup Stakes 3269m
3 Gregory (Bet Now: $3.50) is worth something small each way for me. He comes through the Goodwood Cup where he chased the leader throughout and that burn just told late, as well as lacking the class of Kyprios, but he did stick on really well in defeat to run third. I think with a better run in transit, that run under the belt, he appeals.
4 Point Lonsdale (Bet Now: $3.00) will love the rise in trip. He was a dominant winner at Chester two back before going back in trip for a Group l at Saint Cloud when on speed and although he lacked change up speed, he stayed on and was quite good in defeat. Up in trip, he takes beating.
9 Align The Stars (Bet Now: $14.00) rises sharply in grade/depth but he is absolutely flying and has earned a crack I dare say. He was a super winner at Goodwood last time, leading throughout and credit to him, he found under pressure and was very strong to the line in winning. He lands on speed and will give his all.
Race 3. (00:00) Gimcrack Stakes 1207m
10 The Strikin Viking (Bet Now: $4.40) seems the straight bat option. This colt comes through the Richmond at Goodwood when near the speed before hitting the front and looked the winner when he let down but was nabbed late. I think if he is the one that is chasing, has a bunny in front, he’ll be hard to beat.
2 Big Mojo (Bet Now: $8.50) has to step up to 1200m at this level but he looks a juvenile on the up. He let down with good change up speed to win the Molecomb at Goodwood, and despite doing a bit wrong, he was impressive. If he can run 1200m, which I think he will, he’s a leading contender.
4 Caburn (Bet Now: $15.00) is 2/2 to start his career and looks well suited at 1200m, the distance of his debut win. He came back to 1000m at Newbury where he was back in the run and held up. He looked like he would be a tragedy beat but he got clear and savaged the line late to score. He is a definite threat.
Race 4. (00:35) Nunthorpe Stakes 1005m
I can mark 9 Asfoora (Bet Now: $2.35) odds on. She just looks better than these. Carried the penalty in the Qatar at Goodwood and tried her guts out but with the weight pull against her, she couldn’t reel in Big Evs. She gets the weight pull with her this time, she has more upside/improvement and seemingly draws the right part of the track. She is a good thing IMO.
7 Big Evs (Bet Now: $7.50) is a beauty for Mark Appleby and commands respect as a threat if Asfoora is off her game. He got revenge from Royal Ascot, winning the Qatar and had first run on Asfoora, who couldn’t get past him, but I do think Big Evs had a better run in transit. He will race near the speed and try hard.
11 Believing (Bet Now: $8.00) is one for exotics. She had the back of Asfoora in the Qatar and kept finding the line but couldn’t quite reel them in, finishing third to Big Evs. Not sure she has the quality to win, turn the tables but runs top four definitely.
Race 5. (01:10) Assured Data Protection Ebf Fillies' Handicap 2062m
11 Power Of Destiny (Bet Now: $5.00) seems the straight bat option. Sir Michael Stoute trained gelding that comes through a race at Goodwood when off the speed before being presented and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Al Anoud. I think if he can get first run and time to wind up, he appeals.
3 Al Anoud (Bet Now: $6.50) has done nothing wrong in a six start career and did get first run on Power Of Destiny at Goodwood, which I thought was the difference between winning and losing in the end given he had all the momentum and was quite strong to the line. Leading contender.
4 Zarabanda (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run a cheeky race at odds. He ran at Salisbury last time out when near the speed throughout but when asked for the effort, there was no real response and he was a bit on the plain side late in the piece. His best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 6. (01:45) British Stallion Studs Ebf Convivial Maiden Stakes 1408m
1 Angelo Buonarroti (Bet Now: $3.00) is short enough but I do think he has enough on these. This colt was thrown in the deep end when debuting in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, where he was held throughout but he was beaten under three lengths in what is always a good race. Now with the Beckett camp and up to 1400m, he only has to run up to the debut and he wins I say.
17 Ultrasoul (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a colt that has talent. He debuted over 1200m at Yarmouth where he was off the speed and took a while to get into his work but his last 200m was very good behind Shadow Of Light. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals as a key threat.
13 Red Admiral (Bet Now: $61.00) is an interesting runner at odds. Dark Angel colt that is on debut after being purchased for 100,000 Guineas. He is well related to a couple of types so the breeding suggests he may have talent and 1400m on debut I do like for a horse, so watch the market.
Race 7. (02:20) Sky Bet Mile Handicap 1584m
16 Tokenomics (Bet Now: $12.00) each way in the get out. Lot to like about his win last time I thought. He sat last in the run before staying inside, saving ground and he went through his gears nicely late to win and win well. This is a fair class/depth rise, but he is a horse in form and I think will be strong at the end.
5 Mount Teide (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a nice horse for Andrew Balding. He was an impressive winner at Newmarket last time, leading most of the way and what I liked is the way he went through his gears when asked to go, moving with purpose and was dominant late. Good racing style and has upside/scope.
11 Volterra (Bet Now: $9.50) is an improver at odds. Be forgiving of his run at Newmarket last time when off the speed but was nearer the inside of the pack, which was the no go zone, and he tired over the concluding stages. I think with a better run in transit, he’s dangerous at a price.
