Race 1. (22:45) Dubai Kahayla Classic 2000m

Back Me

Very difficult race to sort out with confidence. Think you just have to trust the market here with 10 Mubasher Al Khalediah (Bet Now: $4.00). He’s a star in Saudi Arabia, winning 12 of 17, the latest being a Group l win during the recent Saudi Carnival. 2000m is his sweet spot and does look the one to beat on paper.

Danger

11 Mutwakel Al Khalediah (Bet Now: $7.00) looks the key threat. Stablemate of the top tip. Ran second to him in that Group l race mentioned above and was good in defeat after doing work early. The query with him is 2000m. Is it a stretch, because he does seem more effective over slightly shorter.

Long Shot

7 Hajres (Bet Now: $10.00) should be suited here. He ran third in the same race mentioned above. He tried hard from a wide gate, but was just no match for the Bin Mashref duo. October 2019 was the last time he greeted the judge first, so a while between drinks, but should be around the mark.

Race 2. (23:15) Godolphin Mile 1600m

Back Me

The Burj Nahaar looks the key form reference for this race. It’s hard to get away from 8 Midnight Sands (Bet Now: $3.25), who has a real love affair with Meydan and is looking to make it seven straight at the track. He won the Burj Nahaar and it was a lovely ride from Pat Dobbs that was a big part of the win. Sat off the speed, peeled into clear air at the right time and the horse did the rest. Think he’s the way to go.

Danger

14 Tuz (Bet Now: $7.50) is the interesting runner. Two back in an easier race, they led on him and just felt the pinch late to run fourth. Then in the Burj Nahaar they rode him cold under Buick and he found the line with real purpose late to run third. I think if Midnight Sands is to get beat, this is the horse.

Long Shot

4 Chiefdom (Bet Now: $10.00) ran second in the Burj Nahaar and his effort was more than sound. Was near the speed throughout and he battled on pretty well, albeit well held on the line into second by Midnight Sands. Off that run, hard to see him turning the tables, but is honest and should be around the mark.

Race 3. (23:50) Dubai Gold Cup 3200m

Back Me

Connections have eyes on the Melbourne Cup with 8 Spanish Mission (Bet Now: $5.00) so if he’s indeed to head down that path, he’d want to be winning this. Resumed in the Red Sea at Saudi Arabia and was given a lovely ride by Ryan Moore. Was there to win, just couldn’t quite finish it off. He’ll come on from that and the extra furlong is a tick.

Danger

7 Secret Advisor (Bet Now: $2.62) is the key threat. He ran third in the race mentioned above. Just got left a bit flat footed when the sprint went on but picked up late and was really good at the end, just missing out on second. 2/2 at this track last year, so has to be respected, especially up to the two miles.

Long Shot

The Nad Al Sheba is the local form reference from four weeks ago. Frankie won on Volcanic Sky but jumps off to ride 3 Global Heat (Bet Now: $11.00), who was the real eye catcher in the race. He was back on the fence and off the bit, but picked up late and surged hard to just miss out on the win. He’ll eat up 3200m off that run and Frankie chooses him.

Race 4. (00:30) Al Quoz Sprint 1200m

Back Me

I’ve been saying for 12 months that if 8 Space Blues (Bet Now: $2.50) was targeted at an Everest, he would go close to winning it. He is the best 1400m horse in the world, but when he has been set for a 1200m race, he has been very effective. Resumed over 1350m in the Turf Sprint at Saudi Arabia and just continued on from a wonderful 2020. Fast run 1200m, he can sit off them and launch late.

Danger

The Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint is the key local form race to look at. 11 Final Song (Bet Now: $10.00) won the race and I thought it was a lovely ride from Frankie that won him the race. Tracked the speed before cutting back to inside the pack and showing really good change up speed 300m out to put the race away. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

6 Motafaawit (Bet Now: $17.00) is big odds here I feel. He comes through that race mentioned above won by Final Song. His effort in defeat was enormous. Just got too far back in the run but he produced an incredible finale, to just miss out on the win. If he’s within range 400m out, $17/thereabouts will be overs.

Race 5. (01:05) UAE Derby 1900m

Back Me

Pretty keen here on 4 France Go De Ina (Bet Now: $5.50). Japanese three year old that created such a good impression when last in work towards the end of 2020, winning a couple of races over 1800m at Hanshin by big spaces. Latest of those two wins, his overall time was over two seconds quicker than the next best 1800m on the meeting, which equates to around 17-18 lengths. From videos I’ve seen online, he is enjoying the Meydan surroundings and $5.5-$6 is a great bet.

Danger

The key local form reference is the Al Bastakiya from three weeks ago. It was won by 8 Panadol (Bet Now: $5.50), and at start two, that is a big effort. He led throughout to win, and while he seemingly got it cheap in front, he was there to be beaten late, but found plenty under pressure. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

3 Fire Group (Bet Now: $67.00) looks the one at big odds to my eye. He is still a maiden and has finished behind Panadol his past two, but thought his closing finale in the Al Bastakiya was full of merit after getting back in the run. Tricky draw to overcome, but $34+ for him does look very much overs.

Race 6. (01:40) Dubai Golden Shaheen 1200m

Back Me

I think this race is all about 13 Yaupon (Bet Now: $4.50) and where he is at. If he brings his best, I think he wins. He was unbeaten and looked a world class type leading into the Breeders Cup Sprint where it all went wrong for him. Was wide, doing a power of work, and was a beaten horse on the turn. Draws well so I think Rosario will look to lead and go gate to wire.

Danger

The Mahab Al Shimaal is the key local form reference for this race. 2 Canvassed (Bet Now: $9.00) won the race and he was impressive I thought. He was asked to chase from a fair way out due to the hectic early tempo but ran through the pain barrier and charged late to nab Good Effort on the peg. Will be conceding a start from the wide gate, but will be strong at the end.

Long Shot

It’ll be fascinating to see what Frankie does from the inside gate with 4 Good Effort (Bet Now: $15.00). Does he try and kick up, hold the front? Or will he opt for cover behind Yaupon. I hope it’s the latter because if they declare each other on, they’ll bring each other undone and set it up for something from behind, but Good Effort set a fast tempo in that race mentioned above and was only caught in the final stride. Definite winning chance.

Race 7. (02:30) Dubai Turf 1800m

Back Me

Well this is all about 10 Lord North (Bet Now: $2.75) for me. If he handles the environment of Meydan and runs up to anywhere near his best, may as well hand him first prize now. He’s a world class middle distance horse for John Gosden that is first up into this race after a very fruitful 2020, highlighted of course by his Prince Of Wales triumph. Frankie steers, can press forward and take a power of beating.

Danger

9 Lord Glitters (Bet Now: $4.33) gets enormous respect. He’s an absolute beauty that has been a grand campaigner for a number of seasons. Continued his love affair at Meydan with a brilliant win from off the pace to take out the Jebel Hatta. He hasn’t got the class of Lord North, but has race fitness and likes the track.

Long Shot

12 Vin De Garde (Bet Now: $13.00) is the knockout chance. Always beware the Japanese horse with A1 form and he indeed does have A1 Japanese form, with efforts behind Gran Alegria and Indy Champ from last year reading so well. Is he more effective at the mile than the 1800m? Only time will tell.

Race 8. (03:10) Dubai Sheema Classic 2400m

Back Me

The word “cracking” is overused in racing. It can be used to describe this race. World class gallopers lining up here. But, I’m going for some value in an up and comer, 5 Walton Street (Bet Now: $9.50). He bolted up at this track/distance three weeks ago, admittedly not in the strongest race I’ve seen, but he did it from on speed and was dominant. In the right camp, a hard 2400m no issue and at around double figures will give a sight.

Danger

8 Mogul (Bet Now: $3.50) is a world class animal for Aidan O’Brien that resumes. He had a fab 2020, which ended with a strong win in the Hong Kong Vase in December. Visually, he was impressive, but in hindsight, it was one of the weaker editions of the Vase in recent years, so he needs to step up from last year, but is in the right stable to do so.

Long Shot

1 Channel Maker (Bet Now: $10.00) can sneak a first four spot. He resumed over 2100m at Saudi Arabia and was there to win under a lovely ride from Rosario. Just found one better in True Self, who for Australian punters, is a Group ll class horse, so on form, needs to improve, but is a multiple Group l winner in the US.

Race 9. (03:50) Dubai World Cup 2000m

Back Me

I’m going with 10 Mystic Guide (Bet Now: $3.25). He’s a very good up and comer from America that resumed on a very testing track at Oaklawn Park. Was wide throughout but he powered through the slop and ended up winning by a space in an impressive return. He’ll have no issue with this being a 2000m slog…$3 is short enough though. I think you’ll easily get $4+ come jump time.

Danger

11 Salute The Soldier (Bet Now: $8.50) won the key local lead up, the Al Maktoum Challenge. He led throughout and what impressed me was how strong he was late. Hypothetical got out in time to threaten and win, but Salute The Soldier held him off and on the line was getting away again. I think from that form reference, he is the only horse I’d want.

Long Shot

8 Magny Cours (Bet Now: $13.00) is the sleeper. Andre Fabre trains this progressive galloper that resumed on the all weather at Chantilly over 1900m and while it wasn’t the strongest field he beat, he did show good change up speed when asked and his time would stack up very well against some of these. His toughest test to date, but in the right stable to be dangerous.
