Glorious Goodwood 2022 continues on Wednesday night, headlined by the Group l Sussex Stakes (1609m).

1 Secret State (Bet Now: $3.30) would be such an ideal Melbourne Cup prospect if he wasn’t a colt. I loved the ticker he showed to win the King George V at Royal Ascot last time. He was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. He’ll get a suck run from the gate and has class.

13 Soulcombe (Bet Now: $4.40) has really turned his career around since the Blinkers have been applied. Made a mess of them two back at Haydock before going to Ascot just under three weeks ago where he spanked them again. Clearly this is a harder assignment, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.

8 Adjuvant (Bet Now: $20.00) is a knockout hope. He was absolutely trucking in the run at Newmarket last time. Just a matter of Sayette pushing the button and once he did, he went through his gears and was impressive in winning. That was his first look at 2400m and he passed, so keen to see how he goes.

10 Benefit (Bet Now: $12.00) is yet to tick the 1400m box but she is racing like she will eat it up. Last few runs have come at 1200m and each time, she has clocked the best last 600m in the race she has contested, suggesting that a rise in trip will suit, which she gets here, and has Ryan Moore. Each way, she’ll do me.

5 Primo Bacio (Bet Now: $7.50) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates, but what she does have is a class edge. She just found the mile a bridge too far in the Group l Falmouth at Newmarket so want to be forgiving of that effort. Back to 1400m and back a fair way in grade/depth, she appeals for sure.

16 Oscula (Bet Now: $9.00) is on the quick back up after racing in a Group lll at Ascot on the weekend where she ran over a mile and tried very hard when beaten narrowly by Humbly. Back to 1400m should be no issue for her, she gets a lovely run from the gate and is rarely far away.

4 Rocket Rodney (Bet Now: $1.90) to produce sustained speed. He was fabulous in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot behind Little Big Bear before making amends with a spank job win at Sandown. This 1000m start does appear to suit on speed horses, so he is seemingly very well suited and is the one to beat IMO.

7 Walbank (Bet Now: $4.40) is a talented colt. He was an unlucky second in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot last time, getting badly held up a vital stage and you could easily make a case to say that with clear air, he wins the race. He’ll likely be spotting Rocket Rodney a start but should be strong late.

2 Eddies Boy (Bet Now: $7.50) is a knockout chance. He ran third (Rocket Rodney second) in the Windsor Castle before a well held third to that horse at Sandown in the race mentioned above. He then went to Newbury, took on easier opposition and made a mess of them. Doubt he wins, but a first four contender.

1 Baaeed (Bet Now: $1.16) is one of the best in the world, as reflected in betting. He has come back in beast mode, bolting up in the Lockinge before repeating the dose in style in the Queen Anne. He has scared off key rivals and should dominate proceedings once again. Watch a star strut his stuff.

5 Alcohol Free (Bet Now: $11.00) steps back up to the mile. She recorded her fourth Group L win when taking out the July Cup at Newmarket in dominant fashion. She is a proven big time performer at the mile…good enough to beat Baaeed? No, but I think she runs second or third.

4 Order Of Australia (Bet Now: $18.00) is a ripper for Aidan O’Brien that is probably just a level below the absolute elite top level. He was six lengths begind Baaeed in the Queen Anne before going to the Curragh and making a mess of them in the Minstrel. He’s very honest and fills the other place spot.

4 Sea Speedwell (Bet Now: $3.90) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. William Haggas trained four year old that resumed over this trip at Leicester where she had a suck run behind the speed before angling into the clear and loomed large but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. Fitter, Marquand on, she’ll do me.

3 Natasha (Bet Now: $5.00) is a key threat. Down the track in a French Group l last run last prep and was spelled soon after. Resumed after a ten month break at Newmarket and was off the bit early but stayed on and was good late when third. Fitter, Dettori taking the ride, she commands respect.

5 Lyrical Lady (Bet Now: $11.00) is a knockout hope for sure. Thrown in the deep end in a Listed race at Sandown last time, and was back in trip, but she ran a ripping race in defeat when a closing fourth. Now gets back up to 2000m and she’ll be strong late, so it won’t be a shock if she wins.

9 The Platinum Queen (Bet Now: $1.80) looks one of the safer bets on the program. Talented juvenile filly that was far from disgraced two back in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She then went to York, found a weaker race and duly bolted up. She has sustained speed, and that is suited to this start.

8 Star Of Lady M (Bet Now: $6.00) is in with a shout if the fav is off her game. Outclassed in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot but bounced back to winning ways last start at Musselburgh when facing three rivals. She sat in the second pair before angling clear and finishing best. Has had good experience and can settle handy.

10 Union Court (Bet Now: $13.00) looks the best of those at near double figures. She didn’t disgrace herself at all two back in the Windsor Castle behind Little Big Bear. She then went to Newbury where she was near the speed and battled on pretty well in defeat when fifth at Newbury. Doubt she wins, but a first four contender.

Wide open race to conclude the meeting. 11 Wild Lion (Bet Now: $6.50) is on top though. Resumed at Leicester where he looked in need of the run but he ran a very credible race I thought when a strong third, beaten a half length. He’ll take good improvement from that and with Frankie on, he is the one on top.

3 The Attorney (Bet Now: $5.00) is knocking on the door to win. He ran down the straight at Newmarket just over two weeks ago where he was near the front of the back on the outside fence and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off, though battled on well when fifth. Draws to get a soft run and has run well at this track before.

10 Lord Rapscallion (Bet Now: $SP.00) will put himself on speed and give a sight. That is what he did at Newmarket last time in a five horse race and he gave a solid kick but just found wanting late when fourth. This is harder, so not sure he wins, but on speed on a firm deck, he’ll give cheek at a price.
