Andreas Suborics is excited about partnering Hungarian speedball Overdose in Saturday’s Temple Stakes at Haydock.
Jozef Roszival’s six-year-old has suffered just one defeat in 16 racecourse appearances and has earned the nickname, “The Budapest Bullet”.
He recently returned from a lengthy absence to win a minor event at Hoppegarten in Germany and Suborics is hopeful the talented sprinter possesses all of his old ability.
“He is a special horse and the style he has won most of his races has been very impressive,” Suborics told At The Races.
“Even last time, after nearly a year off, the style of his win was very impressive, although the horses he beat were not great.
“I liked his last win in Berlin. He was more relaxed than over two years ago when I rode him last and he has got a little bit stronger.
“He was stronger in his neck and his body is a bit heavier. He looks better than when he was a three-year-old.
“He was also a bit more relaxed in the gates than before and everything is fine with him.
“I wish that he is as good as he was before. After his last race, I could not say 100 per cent, because he beat only handicap horses.
“But he gave me a very good feeling and I come with a lot of confidence.
“I know it is much bigger competition in Haydock, but I think he comes there with a good chance and if everything is fine with him he will be the horse to beat.”
Overdose is one of 12 declared runners in the five-furlong (1000m) Group Two, with Henry Candy’s Markab carrying a Group One penalty for winning last year’s Sprint Cup at the Merseyside track.
