Can City of Troy do both, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe where his at $34 with betting sites in Australia, or the Breeders’ Cup Classic where he is the $3.50 favourite.

With the September 2024 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Ranking its City of Troy on 127 who is now the second-highest rated horse and highest rated turf horse in the seventh edition.

In winning the Juddmonte International Stakes, City of Troy’s ranking has risen to 127 from 123, and led from the start in the hands of Ryan Moore to win by a length in a new track record.

Having also won the Coral Eclipse Stakes and the Betfred Derby this year, it’s the Dubai World Cup winner Laurel River who leads on 128, with Goliath still on 125 and Rebel’s Romance 123.

With City of Troy defeating Calandagan, who is now in co-third position on a 125 ranking, he also won the King Edward VII Stakes by six lengths, in addition to Prix Hocquart and Prix Noailles.

Also joining the Top 5 is Fierceness on 123 up from 121, having defeated Thorpedo Anna, 120, by a head in the Travers Stakes with Sierra Leone, 120, in third while Dornoch, 121, was fourth.

Fierceness came into the Travers Stakes having won the Jim Dandy Stakes and earlier the Florida Derby, while Charyn improved to 122 from 120 after winning the Prix de Jacques le Marois

In scoring by three lengths, Charyn was initially ranked after winning the Queen Anne Stakes, and in his latest start was second behind the newly-ranked Tribalist, 120, in the Prix du Moulin.

Also new this month is Economics, 121 who has won all three starts in 2024, most recently the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano, and the Dante Stakes in May, while Fantastic Moon, 120, is ranked on winning the 154th Grosser Preis von Baden.

However, with the Aiden O’Brien trained City of Troy is race favourite for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, and sits second in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Rankings issued 24 September.

The Travers Stakes winner Fierceness is the first choice of the Top 10 contenders for the $7m Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar, and is leading a group of five 3yo’s after 9 week of voting.

In fact, the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Rankings are a weekly rating of the top 10 horses for the $7m Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, run on 2 November at Del Mar T’bred Club in California.

Determined by a panel of leading Thoroughbred racing media, horseplayers and members of the Breeders’ Cup Racing Directors-Secretaries Panel, the Rankings will be announced each week through to 8 October, and voters rate horses on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 system in descending order.

And in this case the Todd Pletcher trained Fierceness, has topped the rankings for the fifth consecutive week since capturing the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday 24 August.

As last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and Champion 2YO Male, Fierceness earned 327 votes and has stayed ahead of fellow 3yo’s City of Troy, Forever Young, Sierra Leone and Dornoch.

Coolmore’s Betfred Derby and Juddmonte International Stakes winner City of Troy, is in second place on 236 votes, followed by Japan’s Forever Young in third with 180 and winner of UAE Derby.
