Aidan O’Brien’s Irish 2000 Guineas winner Power has been retired to stand at Coolmore Stud.
After a prolific juvenile season which saw him win the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and the National Stakes at the Curragh, he was strongly fancied for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
He beat just one home there but three weeks later he proved he had trained on by winning the Irish Classic.
In one further run he picked up an injury in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“Power is a smashing horse with lots of tactical speed and a great turn of foot,” said O’Brien.
“Unfortunately he sustained an injury at Royal Ascot when a horse came down in front of him and while we thought we’d have him back for an autumn campaign, we’ve just run out of time.”
