English stayer Quest For More has claimed his first Group One win in the Prix du Cadran at Chantilly.
The Roger Charlton-trained seven-year-old, who finished ninth in last year’s Melbourne Cup, overhauled the favourite Vazirabad to win by a short neck under George Baker.
Quest For More is now an 8-1 chance for the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day, October 15.
“He’s a special horse but didn’t travel with his normal fluency today,” Baker said.
“I just let him find his feet and I knew he’d stay well, he’s a model of consistency.
“That was the bottom of the alphabet plan and Mr Charlton was probably throwing things at the TV, but he just was not going with the same fluency.”
