In an unusual turn of events, a race at Kanazawa Racecourse in Japan was disrupted last night due to a lighting system failure.
The course lights went out unexpectedly just before the home turn during a 1400-meter race, leading to confusion and the eventual cancellation of the race and the subsequent races.
The Kanazawa Race Club released a statement explaining the incident as a timer malfunction in the lighting system.
“In order to ensure fairness in today’s (November 19th) Kanazawa horse racing, all races from race 9 onwards have been cancelled,” the club announced.
“The 8th race was cancelled due to a power outage to the track lighting during the 8th race, and as it was necessary to confirm the cause, we have decided to cancel subsequent races. ”
“When we investigated the cause, we discovered that the timer setting for turning off all lights after the race was incorrect. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to our fans and related parties.”
