The return of wonder mare Enable will headline a massive weekend of international feature racing on Sky Thoroughbred Central.
Off the back of ITV’s stellar Royal Ascot coverage, Sky Thoroughbred Central will again take the ITV coverage across Saturday and Sunday night.
Enable, with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, will face a small but select field in the Eclipse, which looks set to include stunning last-start Coronation Cup winner Ghaiyyath and Lord North, stablemate of Enable and a dominant winner of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The much-travelled Magic Wand, winner of the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington last spring, is also among the entries.
Enable, a winner of 13 races from 15 starts, has not raced since finishing second when attempting to defend her Prix de l’arc de Triomphe crown at Longchamp on October 6 last year.
She won the Eclipse last year as a $1.75 favourite and this year’s running is scheduled for Monday 12:35am AEST.
On Saturday night, Sky Thoroughbred Central’s focus will be the huge Investec Derby and Investec Oaks at Epsom Downs.
There is strong Aussie interest in the Derby with last-start Royal Ascot winner Russian Emperor. He’s a son of former brilliant Mark Kavanagh-trained mare Atlantic Jewel.
Russian Emperor has just four starts for champion Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien for two wins, a second and a third. He powered to the line like a Derby horse to win the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 17.
