There was quite a lot of incidents yesterday at Sandown especially is Race 6, all of which have been listed in this stewards report.

The following B Class apprentices were given permission to ride at today’s meeting; A Thompson, A Masters, J Noonan, B Knobel, A McCabe & S Rawiller
Race 1 – Redleap Steeplechase – 3300 metres:
Trainer P Payne notified stewards that it was the stable’s intention to have Beach D’Or lead today. Beach D’Or was ridden accordingly. Beach D’Or shifted out when jumping the majority of steeples and as a consequence will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel.
Tarawera pulled hard throughout the race.
Approaching the tenth jump Tarawera knuckled on landing.
Destiny Calls fell at the tenth jump dislodging rider C Durden. A subsequent veterinary examination of Destiny Calls failed to reveal any abnormality. Destiny Calls will now be referred to the Jumps Review Panel.
S Pateman, rider of Some Are Bent, reported that he eased the gelding out of the race prior to the last jump as he felt that there was something amiss with the gelding. A subsequent veterinary examination of Some Are Bent revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. A veterinary certificate is required prior to Some Are Bent racing again.
During the running of the race Stop The Traffic (NZ) lost it’s near fore plate.
A Lynch, rider of Stop The Traffic (NZ), was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
The explanation offered by stable representative, H Dwyer for trainer R Smerdon, for the reason Some Are Bent was late arriving in the mounting yard was accepted.
Race 2 – Winterset Hurdle – 3300 metres:
S Pateman was fined $100 for failing to fulfil his obligation to ride Vindicating (NZ) due to being overweight. G Bedggood replaced S Pateman as the rider of Vindicating (NZ).
Famous Prince was late entering the mounting yard as the gelding required farrier attention.
Chatillion (NZ) pulled hard throughout the race.
Merlot made a faulty jump passing the winning post on the first occasion and also at the eighth obstacle near the 1200 metres.
G Bedggood, rider of Vindicating (NZ), lost the use of the near side rein for a short distance near the 200 metres.
A subsequent veterinary examination of Merlot failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 3 – Toy Show Super Vobis Handicap – 1200 metres:
The explanation offered by trainer N Blackiston for the late arrival on course of Right Of Refusal was accepted.
Trudeau shifted in on jumping and made contact with Seventh Bullet.
Decry shifted in abruptly shortly after the start.
M Zahra, rider of Affluence, reported that in his opinion, Affluence did not handle the track conditions today. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
B Rawiller, rider of Metallic Grey, also reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the track conditions today.
During the running of the race Metallic Grey lost it’s near fore plate.
Race 4 – Fighting Force Handicap – 2100 metres:
Trainer C Alderson was fined $200 for failing to scratch The Tiger by the prescribed time.
Gotta Be A Fox raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
Near the 500 metres Only He Knows (NZ) shifted out to improve and brushed Gotta Be A Fox.
Race 5 – Captain Gerrard at Lindsay Park Series – 1200 metres:
The Starter reported that the gates released prematurely prior to loading South African, which resulted G Boss being dislodged from Cheap Thrills and galloping a circuit. All other runners except South African and Miss Whytwokay travelled for a short distance. Cheap Thrills was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 2.26pm. All remaining runners underwent veterinary examinations at the barriers and were passed fit to start. Delyara was then unable to be loaded and was withdrawn at 2.28pm by order of the stewards.  G Boss was examined by the Club’s medical officers and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
Stewards ruled the deductions payable for successful bets prior to 2.26pm to be paid at Tote odds and bets placed between 2.26pm and 2.28pm were subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 29 cents, place bets 27cents, winning concession bets 27 cents and double bets 29 cents. All monies bet after the stewards’ declaration of withdrawal of Cheap Thrills and Delyara to be paid at face value of the ticket.
Bubble Below was slow to begin.
Miss Whytwokay overraced in the early stages.
Race 6 – Betfair Handicap – 1300 metres:
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer T Meade that So Bright would not arrive on course by the prescribed time due to transport difficulties stewards ordered the withdrawal of So Bright at 9.50am.
The explanation offered by trainer R Hore-Lacy for the late arrival on course of Valentine Blues was accepted.
Winged Charm shifted out on jumping and made contact with Ballet Point, which made contact with Pass The Parcel.
Illusionary had to be steadied away from the heels of Helena Girl which shifted out shortly after the start.
A short distance later Madam Prosecutor shifted in slightly taking Pass The Parcel in onto Ballet Point which had to be steadied away from the heels of Winged Charm.
Pass The Parcel and Valentine Blues over raced in the early stages.
Passing the 700 metres Helena Girl shifted out slightly taking Indian Curry out towards Winged Charm, which had to be steadied away from the heels of Tiptoe Dancer.
Approaching the 100 metres Illusionary was momentarily held up between Indian Curry and Miss Macarthur.
Race 7 – Flying Halo Handicap – 1300 metres:
Subsequent to the running of race 6 Assistant Racecourse Manager D Hunt advised stewards that they believed there was a fault with the starting mechanism between the Starter and the barriers and as a result were going to use a new set of barriers for the remainder of the meeting.
Trainer G White was fined $50 under the provisions of AR140A for producing Lake Crescent in the mounting yard without blinkers which are part of the approved gear.
Lake Crescent was slow to begin.
C Symons, rider of Desertvue, was reprimanded under the provision of AR137A4(b) for using his whip above the shoulder.
D Holland, rider of Husson’s Fortune, which performed poorly, stated that the gelding failed to travel at any stage and in his opinion failed to handle today’s track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination of Husson’s Fortune failed to reveal any abnormality.
D Nikolic, rider of Papercut, reported that he had intentions of riding the gelding positively and when Papercut began well he elected to push forward and race close to the lead.
Race 8 – Runaway Kid Super Vobis Handicap – 1200 metres:
During the preliminary Voile Rouge (NZ) made contact with the inside running rail. Voile Rouge was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and was passed fit to start.
Guffaw was slow to begin.
On jumping Flash Madica shifted in and bumped Voile Rouge (NZ).
Shortly after the start Voile Rouge (NZ) and St Clement Danes came together resulting in St Clements Dane becoming unbalanced.

Making first turn at the 900 metres both Voile Rouge (NZ) and Conquering Journey raced in restricted room between Arnoux and Dad Knows Best, which shifted in.
Near the 600 metres Conquering Journey had to be steadied away from the heels of Dad Knows Best (A Masters), which shifted in. App A Masters was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances she must be fully clear when shifting ground.
At the entrance to the straight Sir Excellence was held up for clear running and shifted to the inside of Arnoux, as a result Flash Madica, which was following, had to be steadied.
During the running of the race Achill Island bled from both nostrils. M Finn, stable representative for trainer M Price was notified that Achill Island now incurs the mandatory three month ban from racing.
A subsequent veterinary examination of Voile Rouge failed to reveal any abnormality.
G Boss, rider of Flash Madica, stated that the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
D Nikolic, rider of All Due Respect, which performed poorly advised that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions.
During the running of the race Ashford lost it’s off fore plate.

Supplementary Report
A request was made by Ms C Shinn, representing trainer L Hope that stewards make a ruling as to which horse N Hall rides at Flemington on Saturday 5 June, 2010 in the D J Bourke Provincial Plate as she was of the belief that the stable had a firm commitment for N Hall ride Kallogg. After taking evidence from N Hall’s manager, A Coyne and H Dwyer, trainer of Laspiel stewards ruled that N Hall was engaged to ride Laspiel first and therefore directed N Hall via his manager to ride Laspiel. N Hall will be interviewed in relation to this matter on Saturday 5 June, 2010
