Troubled apprentice Josh Adams will be asked to repeat a Racing NSW drug and awareness program following an incident at a seminar last month.
Adams and fellow apprentice Ben Vasallo were called to an inquiry on Monday to answer questions about their behaviour at the seminar on June 26 which all metropolitan and provincial junior riders were required to attend.
The seminar was held to raise awareness of drugs and their effects and came shortly after Adams began a seven-month suspension for testing positive to a banned substance.
Vasallo received a two-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to insulting behaviour towards Maurice Logue, the general manager Education and Employment for Racing NSW.
However, stewards advised Vasallo the two-month ban would be activated should he commit any offence under the conduct rules in the next 12 months.
Stewards took into account Vasallo’s contrition and apologies he had made to Logue and other members of his department.
Adams escaped penalty on the condition he supply mobile phone records to support his evidence regarding his phone use during the seminar.
The leading apprentice in Sydney this season, Adams also appeared before stewards last Friday in relation to an incident in a Sydney nightclub when he and a female stable hand were removed after being found in a male toilet in what security guards said were “suspicious” circumstances.
