Victorian country trainer Frank Doderico faces two charges following a stewards’ investigation into a positive swab returned by Speedy Emma after winning at Pakenham in August.
The charges issued by Racing Victoria stewards on Friday relate to the positive swab and raceday medication.
Analysis of a post-race urine sample detected the prohibited substance Sotalol following the mare’s win in the Alex Scott and Staff Berwick Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate (1414m) at on 28 August.
Sotalol is a beta adrenergic receptor blocker that blocks the effects of adrenaline on tissue such as the heart.
Doderico was also charged with administering or causing to be administered Regu-Mate and Tranquil paste to Speedy Emma on race day.
Regu-Mate is a synthetic reproductive hormone which may be used in fillies and mares to suppress oestrus, while Tranquil paste assists in calming nervous horses.
It is illegal to treat horses on race day.
