Surge Review

One of the newer bookies to join the Australian betting landscape online is Surge and first impressions are they are a bookmaker to be considered if you are looking to sign up to a new betting website.

Down below is a comprehensive review of Surge and what they do well, what they can do better and why punters are gravitating towards them.

Why Are Surge Popular

They have recently opened but are going to be quite popular when they become more well known given their intent is to try and entice recreational punters with promotions on a daily basis across both horse racing and greyhound racing. There isn’t just a focus on key race meetings. They are covering throughout the week with enticing promotions, which can be seen when signed up and logged in.

Some of the new betting websites are quite limited when it comes to what they offer with Racing, but Surge are very good, covering a wide range of race meetings, both domestic and overseas, including meetings not covered by the TAB.

Despite no website being up as of yet, the App is very slick. The layout is clean, clear and precise, with notable colours and the font making things easy to see, which goes with the easy navigation.

Why We Like Surge

Withdrawals can be a nightmare with bookies in terms of being processed and the money reaching you, but with Surge, they are one of the front runners in that regard. They process withdrawals three times a day and depending on when it’s done, you’ll get your money back the same day, which is a big tick for a new bookie.

Punters like to know what runner is being best backed to win a race and with Surge, punters get to see which runner or runners is indeed being supported most. A red ‘M’ will appear next to the name of those that are best supported with Surge, so punters can see who others like and bet accordingly.

The verification process is simple and quick, only taking moments. With some new bookies, they make you feel like you are in a circus jumping through hoops, but with Surge, it only takes a quick SMS code to verify the account and then you are off and running, ready to bet.

Why We Don’t Like Surge

At the time of writing this review, there is no website or mobile site. The App is very good, one of the better in terms of new bookies, but having a website to go with the App is very important to make it as a bookmaker so if that can be done in the not too distant future, that would improve their business significantly.

At the time of writing this review, there are no futures markets for racing. Futures betting, especially during Carnival time, is very important and getting bigger. The fact they have nothing available at the time of writing is disappointing and you’d like to hope that will change in the not too distant future.

They don’t have live streaming for both racing and sport. Being able to bet and watch at the same website/app and not having to flick through from one to the other is a big advantage, so Surge not having that is disappointing and that would be a factor as to why punters wouldn’t want to bet with them given how important that can be.

6 Reasons To Bet With Surge

1. Withdrawals

Some of the new bookies are are quite limited and in some cases are poor when it comes to processing withdrawals but Surge are near the front when it comes to new bookies and withdrawals, processing them three times a day, which is becoming the norm with online bookmakers, but being a new bookie, it’s a big tick.

2. Promotions

Surge have realised that promotions are a very important part when starting up as a new bookie and while they don’t promotions at the level of some of the big bookies like TAB and Sportsbet, relative to new bookies, their promotions are pretty good.

3. Frequently Asked Questions

Being a new bookie, knowing what is available and what they are about is important and thankfully with Surge, they have a detailed FAQ section on the app, with questions asked and answered about all the key queries, whether it be bonus bets, opening an account, verification and having trouble logging in.

4. Power Play

On a daily basis, Surge has a Power Play, which is their version of ‘Happy Hour’. For all Greyhound races during a certain time of day, Surge will offer bonus back if the greyhound you backed runs second. That sort of promotion is rarely seen elsewhere so for a new bookie, it’s a definite positive.

5. Group l Bonus

One of their better promotions is the Group l 2nd to 10th throughout June. That sees punters get their money back if the runner finishes 2nd to 10th in Group l races through June in Australia. That sort of promotion is market leading, especially during the Brisbane Carnival where promotions are a bit on the thin side.

6. Customer Service

Some new bookies are quite limited when it comes to customer service, but Surge are one of the better new bookies when it comes to customer service, having phone, live chat and email all available for customers to ask a question.

Surge is one of the leading online bookmakers in Australia and we highly recommend them for all horse racing and sports betting. Their desktop site and mobile app make it simple to place a bet on any race or sporting event. View our full Surge review here.

No. Surge do not offer new customers a sign-up bonus. New legislation prevents bookmakers giving new customers incentives but that does not mean you should not bet with Surge.
